Collegiate SimGym Rules - 2008 Group 1, 2 & 3 Draft Groups 1, 2 & 3 of the
2008 Collegiate SimGym will be comprised of X drafted athletes
and Y open selections. The "XY" number will be determined
after signups are complete. Group 1 will use 12 Xs and 3 Ys. Draftees: Draftees are gymnasts selected in a round by round draft, conducted via email in the Yahoo! Group. Open Selections: After the conclusion of the draft, players will have 48 hours to finalize the last remaining five selections. These selections must be sent to greg@collegegymfans.com. They will be published once all inputs are received. Replacements: Prior to Jan 1st, 2008 and after the conclusion of the Draft and Open Selection round, players may replace any member of their roster. However, the replacement may not already be a drafted or selected athlete. Replacements are made on a first come, first served basis. Draft Rules: a. The draft order will be determined by a random draw made by the moderator. b. Draft start times. Group 1: Draft begins 12 pm EST on November 28th, 2007 c. Players take turns making draft selections, in an order determined through a random draw. Each player will have FOUR hours to make their selection. A selection is made by a posting to the Yahoo Group. Each player shall submit an email with the subject line clearly labeled: "Round X, Pick X". The Xs shall include the appropriate draft order information. After the first player submits their draft pick, the next player in the draft order is permitted to begin. d. If a player does not make a selection in the time period, their turn in skipped. They may pick their missing pick at the conclusion of the draft, but prior to the open selection period. e. A "dead period" shall be declared from 10 pm to 8 am, in the time zone of the player affected. The draft clock will be suspended during this time period. f. All players shall make best efforts to be available for the draft, so that timely execution of the draft can be made. If the player is unable to draft on their own, a PROXY may be selected. The PROXY (usually the moderator) can be provided with a list of choices in rank order and make the selection on behalf of the player. The use of proxies is highly encouraged where the player's access to email during the draft hours will be limited. g. Exceptions may be granted by the moderator, in case of extenuating circumstances (e.g., widespread power outages, hurricanes or other natural causes). h. At the conclusion of the draft, the moderator will declare the open selection period to begin. This will last for 48 hours, as previously mentioned. During this period, players are to select three choices that have not been selected by any player and send them to the moderator. The moderator will then publish the rosters once all the open picks have been received. i. There are no requirements on team distribution or composition. Any athlete may be selected. j. Prior to the draft, players are encouraged to share information on season ending injuries and other issues with potential draft choices. The moderator will provide a reference list prior to the start of the draft. k. The intent is to finish the draft within one week. l. Parents of athletes are given special preference to select their daughter during the first round, regardless of draft order. They should not feel obligated to do so, however. Draft and Team Selection Strategies for Newcomers: a. Players are encouraged to consult GymInfo for information on scoring averages. The RQS averages from 2007 are located at this link. b. Players should pay careful attention to RQS averages, high scores and season averages. For frosh, information on the last competitive season can be referenced on USA Gymnastics Online. You can get an idea of who is returning, and who is a newcomer, in this listing. A full list of newcomers is available at this link. c. Prior to the draft, put together a list of athletes in rank order of selection. This will be helpful if you require a proxy. d. Please be aware that most teams have "bye" weeks where there are no competitions. Having a roster too heavily weighted with athletes from one team can leave you short handed. e. Some athletes tend to score better in their home region or gym, which should be put into consideration when planning weekly lineups. f. Experienced athletes with a proven track record tend to be among the first athletes selected in the draft. During the early rounds, players tend to select the best performing, and most consistent AAers. During later rounds, experienced players complement the strength of their core competitors with talented and consistent specialists. |
