Troester Results (Auburn)

January 11th, 2002

I was in Auburn for the meet Friday. This is my first attempt at giving a review of a meet, so bear with me. I'll try to give what details I remember, which, with my memory is a pretty dicey affair.

First of all, to answer some questions about those who did not compete. Annie Jenkins hurt both ankles, the left one the worst, when she landed short on a double layout. She is rehabbing and the prognosis is four to six weeks. Kristin Thome is not quite recovered from mono. She is working out but lost a lot of gym time. Erin Gettle has a bit of an ankle sprain and only did beam. No word on when she will be full strength. And speaking of full strength, I can't wait until all those routines that were missing Friday are in the lineup.

Auburn started off on vault and got the fifth highest score in school history.

Sally Cantrell - Front handspring dbl twist

Hannah Littrell - Thought it was a pike tsuk but was informed by my 14 year old that it was a Cuervo.

Courtney Pucket - F pike

Kristi Boyte - Pike 1/2

Lisa Clark - Yurchenko full

Cheryl Lancaster - Pike 1/2 (I think. I missed her vault)

Bars started really well. Mary Nell Pate had been missing her double layout dismount in warm up but hit it in the routine. The only skills I can name are the releases and the dismounts. All the twirly stuff that happens on top of the bar is not yet in my repertoire.

Mary Nell Pate - Geinger(sp), the aforementioned dbl. LO

Sally Cantrell - Yeager(sp), dbl. tuck

Cheryl Lancaster - Yeager(fall), toe on 1/2

Courtney Puckett - Dbl' LO

Lisa Clark - Rev. hecht(caught too close and had to take an extra swing) dbl. tuck w/full twist

After two rotations, Auburn was on its way to a 195. But beam burst the bubble (alliterative, eh).

We had to count three falls. I can tell you the series and the dismounts but the jumps I'm still working on. Have to get my 14 year old to school me.

Erin Gettle - Fr. tuck mount; hs,hs, lo; ro, 11/2 twist.

Kayce Stein - hs, hs,(fall - I think a lo was coming); gainer; ro,dbl. twist. Great routine, discounting the fall.

Sally Cantrell - hs, hs, lo; fhs, side dismount w/full twist

Courtney Puckett - hs, hs, lo(fall); ro dbl twist

Cheryl Lancaster - hs, lo, lo(fall); ro dbl twist

Lisa Clark - hs, lo, hs; side sumi(sp); ro dbl back(fall)

Auburn recovered a bit on floor but still had to count a fall (bringing the total for the evening to four). All the routines were high energy, performed with gusto. Due to circumstances beyond my control (bladder control, that is), I missed half of the floor routines. I got bits and pieces from others.

Terri Brannon - fhs, fr. full; fr. LO 1/2; fr. LO, fr. full, fr. tuck.

Kristi Boyte - dbl. pike, fr. LO, fr. LO 1/2; fr. LO, fr. full, fr. pike.

These were the only ones I saw. Here a bits and pieces of the others. Not sure of the order.

Mary Nell Pate - whip, dbl.tuck; dbl. tuck

Courtney Pucket - dbl. pike(fall); dbl. twist

Lisa Clark - full in; dbl. tuck, punch front; dbl. pike. Man can that gal tumble.

A few impressions. I was so impressed with Sally Cantrell. Out for a year and comes back like she's never been gone. Mary Nell Pate got the team off to a great start on bars (9.750).

The freshman; Lisa Clark, Courtney Puckett, and Kayce Stein, showed a bit of nerves but also showed the promise they hold.

All in all, a great beginning for the Tigers. On to LSU and Centenary(again).
