World University Games: Event Finals

Former Cal star Donothon Bailey won the gold medal on the Pommel Horse as competition at the World University Games concluded.  Stanford's Akasha Modi earned the bronze. Modi also finished 7th on the Floor, 5th on the Parallel Bars and 6th on the High Bar. 

Alaska-Anchorage's Simone Penker, competing for Austria, placed 6th on Vault.

Washington has hired Stephen Buckner as an assitant coach.  Buckner comes to Washington from Alabama, where he was the strength and conditioning for the last two years.  Prior to that, he was a graduate assistant with the Tide.

2015-16 Donovan to Illinois

Rachael Donovan, L10 at Parkettes, has signed with Illinois.   She won bars and placed 3rd AA at her state meet this season.  She won beam and placed 3rd AA at her regional meet and earned a trip to JOs.

World University Games: AA Final

In the Women's AA at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, Australian Kelly Jay Simm won the AA title.  Japan's Asuka Teramoto won the silver and teammate Natsumi Sasada won the bronze.  UAA's Simone Penker, competing for Austria, placed 14th.   Link:  Women's Results

In the Men's AA, Stanford's Akash Modi won the Bronze.  Oleg Verniaiev of the Ukraine won the Gold, with Japan's Shogo Nonomura taking silver.  Cal grad Donothan Bailey was fifth.  Link:  Men's Results

World University Games: Day 1

Several NCAA competitors were in action at the World University Games in Gwangju, Korea.  The US Men sent a partial contingent while the no women represented the US.

Stanford's Akash Modi (5th in Prelims) and Cal's Donothan Bailey (17th) each qualified for the men's AA final.  Modi qualified for the FX, PH, PB and HB final.  Bailey qualified for the PH final.  Stanford's Ryan Sheppard, competing for Hungary, finished 32nd.    

Alaska-Anchorage's Simone Penker (Austria) placed 16th in the women's prelim AA and qualified to the final.  BGSU's Jordan Rae (New Zealand) also competed and made the vault final.   

Japan won the men's title and Russia won the women's title.

2015-2016: Morgan to Lindenwood

Kristin Morgan, a L10 from IGI, has committed to Lindenwood for 2015-2016.  At the 2015 Region V L10 Regionals, she placed 24th AA.  She was also 17th AA at Regionals in 2014.

2015-2016: Pratt to Sac State

Carly Pratt, a L10 at Elevate Gymnastics, has committed to Sac State for 2015-2016.  In 2014, she won the FX, placed 4th on UB and tied for 6th AA at the Level 9 Western Nationals.

W&M Welcomes Seven for 2015-16

William and Mary's women's squad will welcome seven newcomers for 2015-2016:  Madison Dwyer, Claire Hadley, Aaliyah Kerr, Regan Sindelar, Kellie Wanamaker, Katie Webber and Anna Weiskopf.  The commit Webber was covered in a prior news item.

Dwyer is a L10 from Gold Medal in New York.  She qualified to the Region 6 L10 Regionals in 2013. 

Hadley is a L10 from the Broadway Gymnastics School.  At the 2015 Region VIII L10 Regionals, she finished 8th AA and qualified to the JO NIT meet.  She was 20th AA at Regionals in 2014. 

Kerr is a L10 from Stafford.  She placed 19th AA at the 2015 Region VII L10 Regionals.  As a L9 in 2014, she placed 5th AA and 1st on BB at the Level 9 Eastern Nationals. 

Sindelar is a L10 from the Omega School of Gymnastics.  At the 2015 Region IV L10 Regionals, she placed 9th AA and qualified to the JO NIT meet. 

Wanamaker is a former elite gymnast and L10 from Parkettes who is transferring to W&M from ASU.  She did not compete last season due to injuries.

Weiskopf is a L10 from World Class.  In 2014, she placed 11th AA at the New York State L10 meet.  In 2013, she qualified to the L10 JO Nationals.

2016-17 Richardson to NIU

Allison Richardson, L10 at Integrity Gymnastics in Ohio, has committed to NIU.  She placed 8th AA at her 2015 state meet, 9th AA at regionals and 13th AA at the NIT.

2016-17 Wright to CMU

Charlie Wright, Canadian High Performance athlete, has committed to CMU.  This season she placed 15th AA at Elite Canada and qualified for bars event finals.  She placed 13th AA at the 2014 Canadian Nationals.

2015-2016: Stanford Adds Hoffman

Stanford has added Nicole Hoffman to its roster for next season, joining Hailee Hoffman, Dare Maxwell and Taryn Fitzgerald in the incoming freshman class.  Nicole is a level 10 from Galaxy Gymnastics in N.Y.  She competed only at regionals in the 2015 season and finished 11th AA.

2015-16 Watts to SUU

Kendal Watts, L10 at Auburn Gymnastics in Washington, is set to join SUU's team this fall.  She finished 3rd AA at her state meet last season and she placed 2nd AA; 1st UB and FX at regionals.   She placed 21st AA at JOs.
