Five Autonomy Conferences Reach Agreement on "Flex 21" Measure

Written by

The five autonomy conference have reached an agreement on a proposal intended to promote student-athlete welfare.   It centers around a concept called "Flex 21". This proposal provides for new limits on team related items, like travel, that consume student-athlete time.

The agreement provides for 7 days off from team-related activites at the end of the season, with exceptions for training for elite-level competitions.  It also provides for 14 days off during the rest of the year, with flexibility depending on the sport.

Similar to labor laws, the provision also includes a provision of a minimum of 8 hours off overnight from team-related activities.  The provision also includes a day off (including travel) from any team-related activities during the season.

The proposal still must be voted on by the NCAA.
