US Gymnastics Championships: Women's Prelims

Simone Biles leads the field after day 1 at the US Gymnastics Championships.  She unveiled a new triple-twisting double back on FX, the first in competition by a woman.   She was a little short on the landing and was pitched forward to her hands.  On her other world-first, a double twisting double back after two bhs, she was near-perfect, with just a hop on landing.

 Auburn commit Sunisa Lee had a strong day for 2nd.  She had the top score on UB (Biles had the top score on the other events).  Oregon St commit Jade Carey was 3rd, while Florida commit Riley McCusker was third.  Florida sophomore Trinity Thomas was tied for fifth with Leanne Wong.  UCLA signee Jordan Chiles showed strong, consistent performances for 7th, while Florida commit Morgan Hurd was 8th after a struggle on FX.  Utah's MyKayla Skinner tied with Ute commit Grace McCallum for 9th.  Another Utah commit, Kara Eaker, had a fall on BB to place 11th. 

UCLA commit Emily Lee was 12th, while Florida commit Shilese Jones was 13th.  LSU commit Aleah Finnegan was 14th, while OU commit Faith Torrez was 15th.  Cal commit Gabby Perea was 16th while Florida commit Sloane Blakely did three events.
