Six Sooners Earn Regular Season All-America Recognition
April 01, 2025 | Men's Gymnastics
NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics senior Emre Dodanli was named a Regular Season All-American on three events and a total of six Sooners earned Regular Season All-America honors, the College Gymnastics Association announced Tuesday.
Dodanli received All-America recognition on floor exercise, vault and horizontal bar. Junior Ignacio Yockers was named an All-American on pommel horse, senior Matthew Burgoyne, sophomore Tas Hajdu and freshman Francisco Velez Belendez were named All-Americans on still rings and junior Kelton Christiansen was named an All-American on horizontal bar.
Regular season All-Americans have been recognized by the CGA since the 2020 season. The top eight-ranked gymnasts and ties on each event and in the all-around, based on four-score average, receive CGA Regular Season All-America accolades.
Dodanli, a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award, is one of just three gymnasts nationally to receive three Regular Season All-America honors (the others are Stanford's Taylor Burkhart [vault, high bar, all-around] and Michigan's Fred Richard [floor, parallel bars and high bar]). The Milton, Ontario, product ranks second nationally on high bar (14.033) and fourth on floor exercise (14.000) and vault (14.283). He is the only gymnast in the country to rank among the top five on three events. Dodanli has now earned nine career CGA Regular Season All-America honors: four on floor exercise, three on vault and two on high bar.
Yockers and Christiansen have each earned CGA Regular Season All-America recognition in each of their three collegiate seasons. Yockers, a Tulsa, Okla., product, ranks fifth nationally on pommel horse (14.333). Christiansen, a product of Arvada, Colo., ranks third nationally on high bar (13.983).
Hajdu, a Las Vegas, Nev., product, ranks fourth nationally on still rings (14.017). He also received Regular Season All-America recognition on rings as a freshman last season. Burgoyne, a Lansdale, Pa., product, ranks third nationally on rings (14.033) and Velez Belendez, a product of San Juan, Puerto Rico, ranks fifth on rings (13.917). This is the first career Regular Season All-America honor for Burgoyne and Velez Belendez.
The No. 1-ranked Sooners compete against No. 2 Stanford, No. 9 Air Force and No. 10 California in the MPSF Championship on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo., hosted by the Air Force Academy. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. CT start. A subscription-based live stream will be available via Overnght, and live scoring will be available via Virti.us.
