Day 1 of the Women's competition at the Pan American Championships saw the US post the highest score in the team qualifier and the AA and event finals decided.  Tiana Sumanasekera (2025) won the AA, BB and took silver on the FX to lead the USA.  Arkansas commit Joscelyn Roberson won FX and took silver on VT and BB.  Nola Matthews (2025) and OU signee (2023) Addison Fatta went 1-2 on UB.  Matthews was also 4th AA.   

Men's AA and event champions were determined on Day 1 of the Pan American Championships in Medelin, Colombia.  Former OU Sooner dominated, winning golds in the AA (84.2), FX (14.5) and PB (14.567).  He also took silver on HB and bronze on PH while placing 4th on R.  In second was former Minnesota Gopher star Shane Wiskus, posting an 82.8.  He also took 2nd on PB and 3rd on FX.   Stanford teammates Curran Phillips and Khoi Young each won gold, with the former taking the HB (14.433) and the latter the PH (13.833).  Young was also 4th on FX.

Competition at the Canadian Championships concluded on Monday, with the Finals of the Women's CCP10 16+ division (roughly similar to US Level 10).  Utah State signee (2023) Nyla Morabito won the title, posting a 75.524 for the win.  She also finished 1st on UB and 2nd on VT and FX.  NU commit (2023) Jenna Sartoretto was 2nd at 75.347 while Illinois State (2023) commit Reesa Grolla was 3rd at 75.073, and 1st on BB and FX.  SUU commit (2023) Rylee Miller was fourth at 74.948.   First day leader Kayla Shaw (2024) won VT.  Former Ute Crystal Gilmore finished 19th.

Canadian Championships: Day 2

On Day 2 of the Canadian Championships, Aurelie Tran (2024) posted another solid performance (51.632, with just a 11.466 on BB this time) to post a combined total of 105.231 to easily outdistance Ava Stewart (2023), who posted a 102.164 for 2nd.  NU (2024) commit Jenna Lalonde was third.  Cassie Lee (2023) was 4th and Sydney Turner, a Iowa commit, finished in 5th.  Tran finished 1st for her classically expressive FX and tied for 1st on UB with Stewart.  Stewart had the highest mark on VT while Lee was tops on UB.  Iowa St signee (2023) Frederique Sgarbossa was 7th and Ute commit (2024) Clara Raposo was 8th.

Canadian Championships: Day 1

Aurelie Tran (2024) posted a strong 53.599 to place 1st AA on Day 1 of the Canadian Championships.  Iowa commit Sydney Turner was 2nd at 51.099 with Ava Stewart (2023) in 3rd at 50.998.  Former CMU standout Denelle Pedrick was 5th with 2024 commit Jenna Lalonde in 6th.  Utah commit Clara Raposo (2023, deferring to 2024) was 11th while Iowa St commit Frederique Sgarbossa waw 13th.  On the men's side, former PSU star Sam Zakutney is first at 81.399 (21+ division).

The men's WDP Nationals are taking place at the same time at the WDP Nationals, both in Oklahoma City.  The Men's GymACT championships for collegiate clubs is also this weekend.  Here are some results for the Senior division

Here are the Top 10 AAers and event winners at the 2023 Women's Development Program Nationals for Level 10.  Their school is noted, where known in parentheses.  The story will be updated as the weekend advances.  Senior/Junior A/B/C are on Saturday, the rest on Sunday.  The All-Star sessions were Friday.

Illinois has hired Temple Head Coach Josh Nilson as their Associate Head Coach.  He was previously an assistant at USU under Coach Walsh.

Missouri Hires Rubin as Assistant

Missouri has hired former ASU assistant coach Lacey Rubin as an assistant.  She was a former athlete at EMU before doing volunteer assistant stints at EMU and PSU.

Bama Hires Hundley as Assistant

Bama has hired former UNC assistant Amelia Hundley as an assistant.  The former Gator standout was a US National Team member.

Tanya Ho served at Interim Head Coach last season.  She has now been hired to head the team going forward.

Announcement

Kayla DiCello is the latest athlete to announce their intention to sit out 2024 and train for the Olympics.  The Gator just finished her frosh campaign.

Ashley Miles Greig was a four-time NCAA champ, 12-time All-American and former Honda Award winner at Bama.  She was also a US National Team and World Championships team member, capturing a team bronze in 2001.  She has been choreographing part time as well as commentating for the ESPN family of networks.  

Announcement

Florida's Trinity Thomas has been named the Honda Sports Award winner for Gymnastics for the second year in a row.  The last gymnast to win two years back to back was UGA's Kim Arnold in 1997 and 198.  She is now a finalist for the Collegiate Women Athlete of the Year and the 2023 Honda Cup (all sports).
