(Xfinity) US Championships: Men's Final

Stanford's Asher Hong won his first US senior Men's AA title, with a dominant performance.  He won the AA competition with a combined 170.02, nearly an eight point difference over the runnerup, Michigan's Frederick Richard.  He also won national titles on VT, FX and Rings, and placed 2nd on PB.  Richard bounced back from a rough first day to take second at 162.565.  OU's Fuzzy Benas was just behind in 3rd at 162.31  Air Force's Patrick Hoopes won the PH while former Stanford star Brody Malone won the PB.  Stanford' grad Taylor Burkhart won the HB.  

Joining Hong on the Men's World Championships team are Illini Brandon Dang, Hoopes, Malone, former Buckeye Kameron Nelson and Donell Whittenburg.   Burkhart is a non-traveling alternate.  

Also named to the Men's Senior National Team were Benas, Michigan's grad Crew Bold, Stanford's Jun Iwai, PSU grad Josh Karnes, former Cardinal Riley Loos, Dante Reive (2026), and former Cardinal Colt Walker.

Stanford's Asher Hong took a large lead after Day 1 of the senior men's division at the US (Xfinity) Championships.  He notched a strong 85.585 to best OU's Fuzzy Benas (81.105) and former Cardinal Colt Walker (81.058).  Hong was also first on VT and 2nd on R, FX and PB.  Walker had the top mark on PB.  Air Force's Patrick Hoopes had the top spot on PH, while former Buckeye Kameron Nelson was first on FX.  Stanford grad Taylor Burkhart had the top mark on HB.

Cal signee Tonya Paulsson, representing Taiwan, was 3rd AA and 2nd on BB.  She was also 4th on the FX.  Clemson commit Emma Malewski won the bronze on BB.    

In the Men's competition, Air Force's Patrick Hoopes won bronze on the PH.  Stanford grad Colt Walker placed 6th in the AA while Stanford's Kai Uemura was 18th.  Illinoi's Tate Costa was 7th on the FX.  OU Sooner Ignacio Yockers, representing Spain, was 9th AA and 4th on PH.  Nebraska grad Ioannis Chronopoulos, representing Canada, was 11th AA.      

The US only sent a men's delegation.  They placed 8th in the team final.  Japan won the men's and women's titles by a large margin.

US Classic: NCAA Related Results

Claire Pease won the AA and VT titles at the US Classic, the final precursor to the US Championships.  Florida commit Simone Rose (2026) was 2nd and Arkansas' Joscelyn Roberson was 3rd.  UGA signee Brooke Pierson was 4th.  UCLA signee Ashlee Sullivan was 6th AA and 1st on BB while Stanford commit Alicia Zhou (2026) was tied for 8th AA.  UCLA incoming frosh Jordis Eichman was 10th.  Florida commit Dulcy Caylor was 11th was LSU commit Hezly Rivera and UCLA commit Nola Matthews tied for 12th.  LSU commit Annalisa Milton was 14th.

Individually, Michigan's Myli Lew won the UB.  2027 recruit Reese Esponda posted the top mark on FX.  A total of 29 athletes were slated to compete, including 23 in the AA.  Florida grad Leanne Wong competed two events while 2026 Florida commit Jayla Hang competed the same two events.

Illinois State Completes Coaching Staff

New Illinois State Head Coach Cassandra Ringer has announced the retention of assistant Kendra Combs and the hiring of new assistant coach Adeline Kenlin.  Kenlin was a standout at Iowa.  A two-time All-American and the 2022 national runner-up on BB.

Michigan Head Coach Bev Plocki has retired from her post after 36 seasons of coaching.   She led the Wolverines to 26 Big Ten Championships and one National Team Title.  She led the Wolverines to 26 Big Ten championships, the most by any coach in any sport in Big Ten history  An 11-time Big Ten Coach of the Year and two-time National Coach of the Year, her athletes have secured 212 NCAA All-America honors and nine NCAA individual titles.  In an emotional video statement, she stated she was retiring in order to devote her full focus on helping her husband in his second battle with leukemia.  

Maile'ana Kanewa-Hermelyn has been elevated to Head Coach, as part of a planned transition.  She has spent seven years with Michigan as an assistant.  She was a standout at OU, taking part in two National Championships and earning two first team All-American honors and two Big 12 Vault titles.

NIU Names Teague as New Head Coach

NIU has named Nita Teague as their new Head Coach.  She had been serving as the interim Head Coach since last September.  Prior to that, she was the associate Head Coach.  A former athlete at NIU, she has been on the coaching staff for 19 years.  Prior to Energym, she spend 22 years at Energym.

The American Classic is a qualifying meet for the US Championships.  Stanford signee Alicia Zhou placed first and OU commit Izzy Stassi (2026) was 2nd  Both qualified to the US Championships.  Michigan signee Myli Lew placed 3rd, and qualified to the Championships as a two event (UB/BB) specialist.  Florida commit (2026) Kieryn Finnell tied for 5th AA.  GA signee Brooke Pierson was 8th, UCLA signee Jordis Eichman was 9th, and LSU commit Malea Milton (2026)  was 10th.  UGA signee Kelise Woolford was 12th, while Arkansas commit Sabrina Visconti (2026) was 13th.

Several former NCAA stars opted out of the House Settlement agreement, preserving their rights in future litigation.  They are listed in the appendix of the final order granting approval of the settlement, linked HERE.  The list of 357 names includes Maggie Nichoals, Kyla Ross, Madison Kocian, and Katelyn Ohashi.

Clemson Hires Wasson as an Assistant

Clemson has hired Luke Wasson as an assistant.  He had been the associate Head Coach at Ohio State until 2024.  He had been there a total of seven years.  He previously was the optional team director at Perfection Gymnastics School.

The United States won both the men's team title and the women's team titles at the Pan American Championships.  Canada was 2nd in both events.

SCSU Hires Tarver as New Head Coach

SCSU has tired Corrinne Tarver as their new Head Coach.  Tarver was the first Head Coach at Fisk and served as athletic director.  She also had club coaching experience at Star Bound and Penn.  

As Corrinne Wright, Tarver was the NCAA AA champ in 1989.

Denver Hires Mary Rice as an Assistant

Denver has hired Mary Rice as a new assistant coach.  Rice has been the full-time team coach for Level 9 and 10 at Brandy Johnson's Gymnastics, where she has coached a number of top L10s.

Cal has hired Geralan Stack-Eaton has their new Head Coach.  She has spent the last 11 seasons as an assistant at Minnesota.  A standout 12-time All-American at Bama, she won National titles on FX (2011) and BB (2012).
