Chase Cannon Wins High Bar Title at Rocky Mountain Open
Highlighted by a first-place finish on the high bar from senior Chase Cannon, the 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team opened the 2017 season with a strong showing at its annual Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 14. Cannon was one of three Falcons to earn a trip to the awards podium on the night, while Air Force combined for a season-opening score of 407.350.
Falcons Kick Off Season Hosting Rocky Mountain Open
The 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team kicks off the 2017 season this weekend, when it hosts the annual Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Academy. The Falcons will welcome top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 20 SC United and the OU club team to the Cadet Center Gym.
Junior Nathan Goff was runner-up on high bar and third on parallel bars, and classmate Seth Cannon earned the silver on vault turning in Army West Point's top performances in the individual finals of the West Point Gymnastics Open Saturday evening at Christl Arena.
Cole's Floor Title Lifts U-M to Third at Windy City Invite
Emyre Cole took home the first floor title of his career with a 14.900, while Anthony Stefanelli took second with a 14.550 to headline No. 10 Michigan's third-place effort at the Windy City Invitational.
The Navy gymnastics team closed out its first weekend of competition with four athletes testing their talents in the event finals of the West Point Open on Saturday night. Amongst the quartet of Midshipmen gymnasts participating in the finals in Christl Arena, three, Noah Beeman (Jr., Dayton, Ohio), Jonny Tang (Sr., Malvern, Pa.) and Ryan Orce (Fr., Gainesville, Fla.) all came away with top-six podium finishes on different apparatus.
The Navy gymnastics team started its 2017 campaign on Friday night as one of seven competitors in the West Point Open. Taking on a talented field, the young Midshipmen squad compiled a score of 391.25 to rank fifth overall in the meet at Army’s Christl Arena. Senior Jonny Tang (Malvern, Pa.) led the team and a group of seven freshmen who made their collegiate debuts on Friday with a fifth-place standing in the all-around competition and two bids into Saturday’s individual event finals.

Gymnastics Ranked 12th in CGA Preseason Coaches Poll
The 2017 Preseason NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Poll was announced late last week by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) and the Navy gymnastics team finds itself ranked 12th overall in the nation. One season after competing as a team at the NCAA Championships, the Mids are the highest ranked squad amongst Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League programs and just 17 voting points shy of 11th place and the position of top non-Power 5 school. Oklahoma, the reigning NCAA champs were selected first in the poll that was voted on by all collegiate head coaches.
Castro, Leal Claim First-Place Finishes at West Point Open
West Point, N.Y. --- The Nebraska men's gymnastics team had had a spectacular showing at the 26th Annual West Point Open Individual Event Finals on Saturday night. NU finished with 11 top-six finishes, including six top-three finishes and two first-place finishes.
The No. 9 Nebraska menâ€™s gymnastics (0-0, 0-0 Big Ten) team kicks off the 2017 season on Jan. 13-14 at the 26th Annual West Point Open in West Point, N.Y. Team finals and individual preliminaries will take place Jan. 13, while the individual finals will take place Jan. 14. Competition begins at 6 p.m. on both nights.
The No. 4 Ohio State men's gymnastics team will host its first meet of the 2017 season on Friday at St. John Arena. The Buckeyes will welcome No. 17 UIC for a dual meet that is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Martin Wins All Around, Yoder and Burke Win Event Titles
Jake Martin won the all-around title with a score of 83.400, and Alec Yoder (pommel horse) and Tristan Burke (rings) won their respective event titles at the 47th annual Windy City Invitational Saturday evening.
The No. 3 ranked Ohio State men’s gymnastics team will close out its preseason on Saturday, Jan. 7, with the annual Alumni Exhibition at the Steelwood Training Facility. The exhibition will feature routines from several current athletes and a couple of alumni.
NEWS: The Penn State men’s gymnastics team will have two home meets featured on the Big Ten Network, while the women’s gymnastics team will have one meet featured on BTN in the 2017 campaign. The network will also air both the men’s and women’s Big Ten Championships.
NEWS: After capturing the floor exercise title at the West Point Open, freshman Favian Valdez (Kearny, N.J.) notched Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as announced by the conference office for the week ending Jan. 15.

This year's team continued to build upon that tradition by sponsoring its annual food drive, which collected 2,892 pounds of canned goods for the local FISH food bank.
Tribe Men’s Gymnastics Sweeps Individual Event Titles at State Open
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 15, 2017)—The William & Mary men's gymnastics team opened its 2017 season with a strong showing at the State Open at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon, as the squad claimed all six individual event titles.
After 43 seasons with legendary head coach Cliff Gauthier at the helm of the William & Mary men's gymnastics program, the Tribe will begin a new era this winter under the direction of interim head coach Mike Powell. No stranger to the program, Powell '04 competed for the Tribe as a gymnast before rejoining the program as an assistant coach last season. In addition to Powell's familiarity and strong ties to the program, aiding the seamless transition will be the fact that Gauthier plans to remain with the team as a volunteer assistant. That strong combination of leadership should serve the team well as it vies for an Eastern College Athletic Conference title and a bid to the NCAA Championships.
