13. Michigan Wolverines |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Starting Routines Returning: 14/24
Routines Gone: 3 VT, 3 UB, 2 BB, 2 FX
Head Coach: Bev Plocki
Associate Head Coach: Scott Sherman
Assistants: Maile'ana Kenewa-Hermelyn, Cali Hager
Finish Last Season: 19th
Returning Starters (6): Carly Bauman (Gr), Reyna Guggino (Gr), Ava Jordan (So), Jenna Mulligan (Gr), Paige Thaxton (Jr), Jacey Vore (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (4): Kayli Boozer (So), Lily Clapper (Jr/I), Farah Lipetz (Jr), Haylen Zabrowski (So)
Graduated (4): Sierra Brooks, Naomi Morrison, Gabby Wilson, McCaleigh Marr
Other Losses (3): Ashley Lane (Sr/R/Student Coach), Kaylen Morgan (Jr/I/?), Abigael Vides (Sr/R/Student Coach)
Newcomers (8): Peyton Davis (Fr), Sophia Diaz (Fr), Asta Farrell (Gr/TR/LIU), Amy Fukami (Fr), Lucie Kirchner (Fr/I), Sophie Parenti (Fr), Jahzara Ranger (Fr), Audrey Sanger (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Michigan ended last season in 19th place, as a weak balance beam rotation in their second-round matchup left them in third place. Throughout the season, depth and injury issues were a problem. Gone from that squad were superstars Sierra Brooks, a 23-time All-American and 2023 AAI Award winner, ten-time All-American Gabby Wilson, and five-time All-American all-arounder Naomi Morrison. The Wolverines in 2025 will be led by a trio of grad students: Carly Bauman, Reyna Guggino, and Jenna Mulligan. Senior Jacey Vore also returns, as does Paige Thaxton (the latter missed the annual preseason exhibition meet). Sophomore Kayli Boozer looks to break into the balance beam and floor exercise lineups after a strong preseason.
Michigan welcomes a huge and talented class of eight newcomers, led by Peyton Davis (4*), Sophia Diaz (5*), Amy Fukami (4*), Lucie Kirchner (4*), Sophie Parenti (3.5*), Jahzara Ranger (4.5*), and Audrey Sanger (3.5*). Top recruit Diaz graduated a year early to join the Wolverines. She won the vault (10.0) and all-around titles (Senior C) at the 2024 Women's Development Program (WDP) Level 10 Nationals. She also finished 2nd on uneven bars, 3rd on floor exercise, and tied for 3rd on balance beam. A three-time Level 10 National team member, she won the all-around title, placed 3rd on floor exercise, tied for 5th on balance beam, and tied for 7th on uneven bars at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Ranger is a high-impact gymnast who qualified for the Nastia Liukin Cup in 2024. Sanger is coming off her best-ever club season. She made the Level 10 National team by tying for 4th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 7th on uneven bars and 5th on balance beam, placed 6th on uneven bars and tied for 9th on vault. Davis is coming off a strong season, having placed 4th on balance beam and tied for 6th on floor exercise and 9th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 20th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Parenti used much of the 2024 season to come back from injury. In 2023, she placed 6th all-around, 4th on balance beam and tied for 6th on uneven bars and 9th on vault at the WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for the uneven bars title in 2021.
Unfortunately, Fukami and Kirchner are both coming back from injury. Fukami fell short of qualifying for the Level 10 Nationals in 2024 but tied for 7th on uneven bars and placed 16th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Kirchner missed the postseason in 2024 but tied for 5th on balance beam, placed 7th on vault, and tied for 13th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals.
With 10 scores missing from some key superstars, the Wolverines must look beyond their six returners and get immediate contributions from their newcomers. Frosh can be a tricky proposition: sometimes they adapt quickly, but others may need up to a full season to adjust. With injuries complicating the picture, Michigan will look to immediate contributions from the likes of Diaz, Ranger, Davis and others.
14. UGA Gym Dogs |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Starting Routines Returning: 18/24
Routines Gone: 2 VT, 1 UB, 1 BB, 2 FX
Head Coaches: Cecile Canqueteau-Landi, Ryan Roberts
Assistants: Marissa King, Oleksii Koltakov
Finish Last Season: 18th
Returning Starters (8): Sidney Fitzgerald (Jr), Naya Howard (Jr), Zora Morgan (So), JaFree Scott (Jr), Lily Smith (So), Holly Snyder (So), Anya Turner (So), Ady Wahl (So)
Other/Injured Returners (4): Jaydah Battle (So/I), Nicole King (Jr), Kelsey Lee (So), Eryn Williams (Jr)
Graduated (5): Amanda Cashman, Katie Finnegan, Haley De Jong, Vanessa Deniz, Ashlyn LaClair
Other Losses (1): Heather Parker (So/TR/CMU)
Newcomers (10): Nyla Aquino (Fr), Sadie Jane Berry (Fr), Csenge Bacskay (Jr/TR/Nebraska), Alexis Czarrunchick (Fr), Kara Eaker (Jr/TR/Utah), Brooke Gleichowski (Fr), Emma Mason (Fr), Aberdeen O'Driscoll (Fr), Anaya Smith (Gr/TR/ASU), Harley Tomin (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Georgia looks to a fresh start under new co-Head Coaches Cecile Canqueteau-Landi and Ryan Roberts. The Gymdogs finished 2024 in 18th position with a very young and inexperienced team and return 18 of 24 routines from last season. While UGA did graduate a number of top athletes like Haley De Jong and Vanessa Deniz, injuries had already taken them from the lineups. Eight returners lead the way, with several sophomores that will only benefit from another year of training. Lily Smith, Holly Snyder, and Ady Wahl are just three of last year's rookies that were pressed into action. Unfortunately, Jaydah Battle tore her Achilles last summer and is still recovering. Juniors Naya Howard and JaFree Scott have also been critical contributors their first two seasons and will continue to lead the young squad.
UGA welcomes a huge incoming class of ten, including some key high-impact transfers. Csenge Backsay, an Olympian from the Czech Republic, posted a 39.35 career high in the all-around and is a World Championship finalist on vault (Yurchenko 1½). Kara Eaker, an All-American and former US World Championship team gold medalist, transfers to the Gymdogs after taking a season off. Finally, Anaya Smith was the NCAA runner-up on vault last season, with her consistent Yurchenko 1½.
UGA also adds seven frosh, led by Nyla Aquino (3*), Sadie Jane Berry (4*), Emma Mason, Aberdeen O'Driscoll, and Harlyn Tomlin (4.5*). Tomlin placed 2nd on floor exercise (Arabian double), tied for 5th on vault and 3rd all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also placed 5th on vault, 7th on floor exercise, and tied for 11th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. An early graduate, Berry tied for 5th on uneven bars, placed 8th on balance beam, and took 11th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals (Senior A). She was also 15th all-around at the 2022 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Aquino placed 4th on vault (Tsuk Layout Full) and tied for 2nd on balance beam while placing 13th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She was also 2nd on vault, tied for 10th on floor exercise, and tied for 33rd all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. O'Driscoll is a Belgian National Team member who was 2nd all-around at the 2022 Belgian Championships. She also placed 12th all-around at the 2022 European Championships and was the alternate to the Belgian squad at the 2023 World Championships. She did sit out 2024 with a stress fracture in her back but resumed training during the year. Two more Level 10s may break through, with their best chance coming as specialists: Mason on uneven bars (tied for 10th at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals) and Gleichowski on balance beam.
UGA returns the talented core of a team that was edged by just 0.1 from a spot in the Regional final. The team fought through some adversity and relied heavily on frosh, which should pay dividends this year as the rookies have had another year of training under their belt. Add to that core some high-profile transfers and additional frosh talent, and UGA's trajectory should continue to rise.
15. Stanford Cardinal |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Head Coach: Tabitha Yim
Associate Head Coach: Vince Smurro
First Assistant: Hallie Mossett
Assistant: Caleb Rickard
Starting Routines Returning: 16/24
Routines Gone: 2 VT, 2 UB, 2 BB, 2 FX
Finish Last Season: 5th
Returning Starters (7): Victoria Cluck (So), Claire Dean (Jr), Anapaula Gutierrez (Sr), Brenna Neault (Sr), Anna Roberts (Jr), Sienna Robinson (So), Ava Sorrento (Jr)
Other/Injured Returners (4): Ashley Carter (Jr), Temple Landry (So), Taralyn Nguyen (Jr), Porsche Trinidad (Jr/I)
Graduated (4): Ira Alexeeva, Chloe Widner, Sandra Jessen, Amanda Zeng
Other Losses (2): Sydney Razeghi (So/?), Katya Sander (Sr/?)
Newcomers (5): Kendra Chang (Fr), Jaime Dugan (Fr), Levi Jung-Ruvivar (Fr), Ui Soma (Fr), Alana Walker (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Stanford delivered yet another end of the season surprise last season, ending up in fifth place nationally after a strong post-season run. Some timely, well-paced injury recovery, notably to star AAer Anna Roberts, contributed to the dramatic post-season rose. Nevertheless, despite that history, the Cardinal find themselves knocked down a full ten spots from their 2024 finish. They do need to replace 8 routines from that last lineup, including top routines from superstar AAer Chloe Widner and top UB/BB specialist Ira Alexeeva. But the core of the team remains, led by Roberts, seniors Anapaula Gutierrez and Brenna Neault, and junior Claire Dean. Stanford also hopes to get back the full services of powerhouse Taralyn Nguyen, who can help buffer their losses.
Stanford welcomes four solid gymnasts in another very strong class, led by Olympian Levi Jung-Ruvivar (4.5*), Japanese elite Ui Soma (4.5*), Jamaican elite Alana Walker (3.5*), L10 Jaime Dugan (4.5*) and local L10 Kendra Chang (3*). Jung-Ruvivar was an elite in the US program before switching to ocmpete for the Philippines. She had a stellar 2024, qualifying to the Olympics via the difficult World Cup circuit (via UB, her best event) and placing 40th AA at the Olympic Games. She was also 25th AA at the 2023 XFinity US Championships. Soma was in contention for the 2021 Olympics but a severe knee injury led to a long recovery. However, she rebounded strongly in 20024, posting a 52.365 at the All-Japan Championships to finish 7th AA, followed by a 7th place finish at the NHK Trophy to narrowly miss Olympic selection. Walker is an American L10 who has also competed for Jamaica. She rebounded from a knee injury in 2023 to place 3rd on FX, 6th(t) on UB and 14th(t) AA at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. She then followed that with a 15th place AA finish at the Pan American Championships. Dugan rapidly improved the last two seasons to tie for 10th AA at the 2024 and 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. She was also 8th(t) on UB in 2024 and 7th(t) on UB and 10th on VT in 2023. The final frosh, Chang, came back from an injury to post a 38.85 to win the NorCAl L10 State meet. She also finished 2nd on UB and 10th(t) as an individual event specialists at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. Chang also finished 25th(t) AA at the 2022 WDP L10 Nationals and 9th(t) AA in 2021.
A small but talented Stanford roster returns to once again try to pull a post-season surprise However, the loss of Widner's regular 9.9+ marks means that frosh like Jung-Ruivivar and Soma need to be able to contribute at a high level immediately. Roberts is looking strong in preseason, but injuries will be key for this squad.
16. Ohio State Buckeyes |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Head Coach: Meredith Paulicivic
Associate Head Coach: Lucas Wasson
Assistants: Quest Hayden, Randy Monahan, Mickayla Stuckey
Starting Routines Returning: 14/24
Routines Missing: 1 VT, 3 UB, 3 BB, 3 FX
Finish Last Season: 13th
Returning Starters (6): Samara Buchanan (So), Kaitlyn Grimes (Sr), Payton Harris (Jr), Courtney McCann (So), Tory Vetter (RS Jr), Sidney Washington (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (6): Mary Green (So), Mallory Gregory (Jr), Kaylyn Mintz (Jr/I), Maisyn Rader (So), Grace Walker (So), Jojo Warga (Gr/I)
Graduated (5): Savannah Gonzalez, Alexis Hankins, Ella Hodges, Emma Pritchard, Nicole Riccardi
Other Losses (0): N/A
Newcomers (8): Kerrington Baham (Fr), JJ Coleman (Fr), Rylee Guevara (Fr), Ashton Meuret (So/TR/WVU), Kate Parks (So/TR/LIU), Karleigh Reutzel (Fr), Reagan Sams (So), Cameron Smith (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Ohio State placed a strong 13th last season, continuing their drive up the rankings. They finished 3rd in the Regional final, but unfortunately lose 10 routines from last year's final lineup. This total includes the loss of gymnasts like Alexis Hankins, Ella Hodges and Nicole Riccardi. However, six core returners will pace the Buckeyes in 2025, led by top AAers Payton Harris and Tory Vetter, plus senior Sidney Washington. tOSU also welcomes back Courtney McCann, who could also emerge as a major contributor. Six other returners grace the roster, and they could push to fill the empty 10 spots.
Ohio State welcomes eight newcomers, led by L10s JJ Coleman (4*), Rylee Guevara (4.5*) and Cameron Smith. Guevara captured the National FX title in the Sr F division at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. She also finished as the runnerup in the AA, tying for 4th on VT, 6th on BB and 10th on UB. She was also 2nd on FX, 7th(t) on BB and 15th(t) AA at the 2023 WDP L10 Nationals. She also shared the FX title in 2022. Coleman tied for the BB title at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals (Sr. F). She also tied for 4th on VT (Yurchenko 1 1/2), 10th on FX and placed 22nd AA. In 2023, she was runnerup in the AA and tied for 3rd on BB and 7th on both UB and FX. Smith brings a big Yurchenko 1 1/2 on VT, where she tied for a National title back in 2021. She also placed 18th AA, 4th(t) on VT and 6th(t) on FX at the 2022 WDP L10 Nationals. However, she has missed most of the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
The Buckeyes look to continue their march up the standings and break into the group of National qualifiers. To do that, tOSU will need to not only get top performances from their top three stars, but see some quick contributions from Guevara and Coleman. Stronger vaults appear to be on hand, but it appears that UB and BB will be a top focus area for 2025.
17. Auburn Tigers |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Head Coach: Jeff Graba
Associate Head Coach: Sara Carver-Milne
Assistants: Kurt Hettinger, Brooke Leonard-Fincher
Starting Routines Returning: 18/24
Routines Gone: 1 VT, 2 UB, 1 BB, 2 FX
Finish Last Season: 20th
Returning Starters (9): Sophia Groth (Sr), Olivia Greaves (So), Hannah Haigle (Jr), Olivia Hollingsworth (5th Yr Sr), Sara Hubbard (Sr), Julianne Huff (So), Gabby McLaughlin (5th Yr Sr), Sydney Schumacher (5th Yr Sr), Paige Zancan (So)
Other/Injured Returners (6): Bryn Bartman (So/I), Emma Grace Boyd (So), Sophia Greaves (So), Anna Hill (Sr/I), Caroline Leonard (Sr/I), Jersie Woosey (So)
Graduated (2): Aria Brusch, Cassie Stevens
Other Losses (4): Ananda Brown (Sr/?), Madelynn Crow (Jr/I/?), Hailey John (Jr/?), Lila Smith (Sr/?)
Newcomers (6): Olivia Ahern (Fr), Sophia Bell (Fr), Katelyn Jong (Fr), Alex Irvine (So/TR/UCLA), Marissa Neal (Fr), Sarah Zois (Sr/TR/GWU)
Quick Assessment: Auburn placed 20th last season after a somewhat distant 3rd place finish in the second round of the Cal Regional. They return 18 of 24 routines from that squad, with key sets from the departed Cassie Stevens and Aria Brusch. They return 9 starters, led by 5th-year seniors Olivia Hollingsworth and Gabby McLaughlin, and senior Sophia Groth. There is plenty of talent on the roster, and the Tigers would like to see expanded contributions from the likes of Olivia Greaves, Julianne Huff, and Bryn Bartman. Injuries have played a role, but replacing the missing scores could be a matter of getting some injured athletes back in top form. Greaves and Huff, in particular, showed great progress in the recent intra-squad.
Auburn welcomes one of their strongest incoming classes in years, including Olivia Ahern (3.5*), Sophia Bell (3.5*), Katelyn Jong (4.5*), and Marissa Neal (4.5*). Jong is looking strong in the preseason and is slated for a possible all-around role. The 2021 junior US Champion, Jong placed 23rd all-around and 6th on uneven bars at the XFinity US Championships (Senior) in 2024. She was also 6th as a senior at the 2023 XFinity US Championships. Although she has struggled at times with injuries, she appears set to blossom as an NCAA athlete. Neal had her strongest year as an elite in 2024, placing 17th all-around and 9th on balance beam at the XFinity US Championships. She was also 19th all-around at the 2023 XFinity US Championships. Bell excels on vault (Yurchenko 1½) and floor exercise (double layout), placing 3rd on vault and tying for 6th on floor exercise at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also finished tied for 18th all-around at the meet. A four-time Level 10 National qualifier, she made the Level 10 National team in 2022. Ahern placed 19th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals, after missing the postseason in 2023. A four-time Level 10 National qualifier, she tied for 4th on balance beam and 6th on floor exercise while placing 20th all-around at the 2022 WDP Level 10 Nationals.
While experiencing the loss of Stevens and Brusch, Auburn is set to take the next step forward, powered by a talented freshman class. With a strong set of returners and a large roster, the freshmen should have time to adjust to the rigors of NCAA competition. However, for athletes like Jong, the impact may be immediate.
18. Minnesota Gophers |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Head Coach: Jenny Hansen
Associate Head Coach: Rich Stenger
Assistant: Geralen Stack-Eaton, Kiki Parenteau
Starting Routines Returning: 17/24
Routines Gone: 1 VT, 2 UB, 3 BB, 1 FX
Finish Last Season: 12th
Returning Starters (8): Leah Gonsiorowski (So), Mya Hooten (Gr), Marissa Jencks (Sr), Seria Johnson (Jr), Emily Koch (Gr), Sarah Moraw (Jr), Sophia Nguyen (So), Lauren Pearl (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (8): Anahit Assadourian (Sr), Marissa Fisher (So), Kendall Landry (So), Jordyn Lyden (So), Jenna Olshefski (So), Brooklyn Rowray (Jr/I), Sophie Swartzmiller (So) Megan Steensland (So/I)
Graduated (3): Gianna Gerdes, Katie Horak, Ella Sirjord
Other Losses (0): N/A
Newcomers (6): Teryn Crump (Fr), McCauley Harrington (Fr), Jayda Lewter (Fr), Samantha Schneider (Fr), Ava Stewart (Fr), Morgan Walsh (Fr)
Quick Assessment:
Minnesota placed a strong 12th last season, finishing 4th at the Arkansas Regional final. Gone from that squad are seven routines, including key sets from star all-arounder Gianna Gerdes. Also missing is Ella Sirjord, who scored 9.925 on uneven bars and balance beam at Regionals. The Gophers return the core of their squad, however, led by former NCAA floor exercise champion Mya Hooten. She's supported by seniors Marissa Jencks and Lauren Pearl, and juniors Seria Johnson and Sarah Moraw. Sophia Nguyen was the top rookie last season, and the Gophers would like to see more output from the sophomores, particularly Jordyn Lyden, Megan Steensland and Jenna Olshefski. Junior Brooklyn Rowray, who has battled injuries for two seasons, remains a wildcard for Minnesota but competed at their recent intrasquad.
Minnesota welcomes six strong newcomers, led by Canadian elite and two-time Olympian Ava Stewart. She'll also be supported by Level 10s Teryn Crump (3.5*) and McCauley Harrington (4*). Stewart placed 19th in the all-around at the 2024 Olympic Games, after placing 3rd all-around, 3rd on uneven bars, and 1st on balance beam at the 2024 Canadian Championships. She also won a bronze medal on balance beam at the 2023 Pan American Games. Crump had a breakthrough year in 2024, winning the Texas Level 10 States with a 39.175 all-around and placing 3rd on uneven bars, tying for 6th on vault (Yurchenko 1 1/2), and tying for 7th on floor exercise at the WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 6th on vault and placed 25th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Harrington placed 4th on floor exercise and tied for 25th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Her breakthrough came in 2023 when she made the Level 10 National team by placing 4th all-around at the WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also placed in the top 8 on all four events.
Minnesota seeks to return to the Regional finals and take their shot at advancing to the National meet. They return a strong core of 17 routines, led by star Mya Hooten. While they will be looking to the rest of the roster to make up for the missing seven routines, help may come immediately from the frosh class, especially on UB.
19. Oregon State Beavers |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Starting Routines Returning: 22/24
Routines Gone: 0 VT, 0 UB, 1 BB, 1 FX
Head Coach: Tanya Chaplin
Associate Head Coach: Mike Chaplin
Assistants: Brian Carey, Kaytianna McMillan
Finish Last Season: 21st
Returning Starters (9): Natalie Briones (Sr), Olivia Buckner (So), Jade Carey (Sr), Taylor DeVries (So), Sophia Esposito (So), Kaitlin Garcia (Sr), Jennifer McMillan (Jr), Savannah Miller (Jr), Sage Thompson (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (7): Carley Beeman (Sr), Francesca Caso (Jr), Karlie Chavez (Sr), Sydney Gonzales (Gr/I), Mia Heather (So), Lauren Letzsch (Sr/I), Ellie Weaver (Jr/I)
Graduated (1): Ariana Young
Other Losses (1): Phoebe Jakubczyk (Sr/I/R)
Newcomers (4): Guilianna Fiorillo (Fr), Sophia Kaloudis (Fr), Reina Marchal (Fr), Paulina Vargas (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Oregon State finished 21st overall last season, after placing fourth in their round two matchup at the Arkansas Regional. A series of injuries took their toll last season, but they return 22 of 24 routines heading into 2025. They will once again be led by two-time Olympian and Gold Medalist Jade Carey, one of the favorites for the individual NCAA title this season. The Beavers will also welcome back Sage Thompson, who made an impact after transferring from Utah, and sophomore all-arounder Sophia Esposito, who should only improve after her rookie campaign. Oregon State also received key contributions from senior Natalie Briones and Kaitlin Garcia, sophomore Olivia Buckner, and junior Jennifer McMillan. The Beavers also hope to regain the services of injured athletes Sydney Gonzales, a grad student, and senior Lauren Letzsch, a former all-arounder.
Oregon State welcomes four newcomers, led by potential standouts Guillianna Fiorillo (4*) and Sophia Kaloudis (4.5*). Kaloudis is a former Level 10 National Team member who has placed in the top 7 at the Level 10 Nationals four times. She placed 6th all-around in 2024 at the WDP Level 10 Nationals, tying for 6th on uneven bars and 9th on balance beam. She was also 5th on balance beam and floor exercise in 2023, taking 5th in the all-around as well. Fiorillo came back in 2024 after missing 2023 to place 2nd on vault (Pike Omelianchik) at the WDP Level 10 Nationals. She tied for 18th all-around at the meet. She missed almost all of the 2023 season but was 6th on balance beam, and tied for 7th on uneven bars and in the 9th in the all-around at the 2022 WDP Level 10 Nationals. Paulina Vargas is an elite from Mexico, who competed at the Youth Olympic Games back in 2018 but has competed more sparingly since then.
Oregon State will look to improve their overall depth by integrating their freshmen quickly and by getting more contributions from their injured returners as well as their other returnees. While balance beam was a problem at Regionals, the Beavers will also look to getting big key sets from the freshmen and vets Gonzales, Letzsch, and Weaver.
20. ASU Gym Devils |

Head Coach: Jay Santos
Assistants: Kristen Harold, James Williams, Kaprece Nadonza
Starting Routines Returning: 15/24
Routines Gone: 3 VT, 3 UB, 2 BB, 1 FX
Finish Last Season: 16th
Returning Starters (6): Sarah Clark (Gr), Halle Gregoire (So), Kayla Lee (So), Jada Mangahas (Gr), Kimberly Smith (Jr), Emily White (Gr)
Other/Injured Returners (7): McClaine Daigle (Jr), Isabella Kowan (Jr), Caroline Lichtman (Jr), Lilia Purler (So), Chloe Sceaga (So), Chavala Shepard (So/I), Alex Theodorou (Sr/I)
Graduated (4): Skye Harper, Gracie Reeves, Cienna Samiley, Hannah Scharf
Other Losses (3): Cassi Barbanente (5th Yr Sr/TR/PSU), Mallory Marcheli (Sr/?), Anaya Smith (Gr/TR/UGA)
Newcomers (5): Jenna Blair (Sr/TR/NIU), Halle Braaflat (Fr), Nina Laurito (Fr), Tiara Platkin (Fr), Jenna Timmons (Fr/I)
Quick Assessment: ASU loses 9 routines from 7 departed gymnasts from a squad that finished 16th in the final standings. ASU pulled off one of the big upsets of last year's postseason, edging UCLA in the second round to advance to the final of the Cal Regional, where they finished 4th. Gone from that squad are some iconic Gym Devils, including Hannah Scharf, Gracie Reeves, and Anaya Smith. They return six gymnasts, led by grad students Sarah Clark, Jada Mangahas, and Emily White, junior Kimberly Smith, and sophomore Halle Gregoire. ASU will also hope to get Chavala Shepard and Alex Theodorou back from injury.
ASU welcomes five newcomers, led by Nina Laurito (3*), Tiara Platkin, and Canadian Jenna Timmons (3*). Laurito placed 9th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 9th on balance beam. In 2023, she finished 24th all-around, and in 2022, she tied for 9th all-around and placed 3rd on uneven bars and 6th on balance beam. Timmons is a former Canadian National Team member who was the traveling alternate to Canada's 2022 Commonwealth Games team. She tied for 2nd on balance beam and placed 11th all-around at the Canadian Championships in 2022. Unfortunately, Timmons had knee surgery in early 2024. Platkin tied for 13th on uneven bars at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals, after tying for 3rd in 2023. She was also 29th all-around in 2023. Halle Braaflat's best event is VT, and she may be needed on that event immediately.
As the Gym Devils look to replace the nine routines lost to graduation and transfer, they will need to have their returners like Clark and Smith to step up to more events, as depth is a key concern. They will also need to get back key injured gymnasts like Theodorou. The recent intrasquad was missing many of the top returners and newcomers, leaving a lot of open questions as we enter the season.

Returning Starters (9): Gabbie Gallentine (Gr), Amani Herring (Jr), Jessica Johanson (Sr), Maddie Johnston (Gr), Alyssa Kramer (So), Ashley Maul (So), Kalea McElligott (So), Ava Piedrahita (Jr), Bella Salcedo (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (2): Olivia Yarussi (Sr/I), Elina Vihrova (Sr/I)

Newcomers (6): Cassi Barbanente (Gr/TR/ASU), Allison Kaempfer (Fr), Dani Latronica (Fr), Elizabeth Leary (Fr), Bella Misiura (Fr), Ellie Monahan (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Penn State is a team with momentum, coming off one of their strongest finishes in years. They placed 15th in last year's final standings, making the Regional Final at Michigan. They return 23 of 24 routines, losing just one routine from 7 departed gymnasts. Leading the way in 2025 will be junior Ava Piedrahita and sophomore Kalea McElligott. Grad student Maddie Johnston, seniors Jessica Johanson and Bella Salcedo, and junior Amani Herring will all be key contributors. Those six contributes 20 routines to last year's final lineup.
PSU welcomes six newcomers for 2025, including one of their strongest frosh classes in some time. The five frosh include: Allison Kaempfer (4.5*), Dani Latronica (3*), Elizabeth Leary (5*), Bella Misiura (3.5*) and Elle Monahan (4.5*). Leary was the BB National Champion in Senior E at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. She also tied for 8th on VT and placed 5th AA. In 2023, she placed 2nd on FX, 3rd on BB and 3rd AA at the WDP L10 Nationals. Kaempfer tied for the VT title at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals, with a big Yurchenko 1 1/2. She also tied for 7th on FX and 9th on UB and placed 2nd AA. In 2023, she placed 3rd on VT and tied for 4th on UB at the WDP L10 Nationals. Monahan qualified to L10 Nationals for the fourth time in 2024, placing 6th AA. She also was 5th on UB, 8th(t) on BB and 10th(t) on VT (Tsuk layout full). In 2023, she placed 5th AA and tied for 4th on UB, 6th on FX and 9th on VT. Misiura is a three-time L10 National qualifier, placing 14th(t) AA in 2024, 13th in 2023 and 13th in 2022. Latronica did not compete at Nationals in 2024, but placed 2nd on BB and 5th AA at the 2024 Region 8 L10 Regionals. She also placed 9th(t) on BB and 24th AA at the 2023 WDP L10 Nationals.
With just one routine missing from last year's final lineup, a large class of top returning talent and strong frosh class, PSU is well set to improve on their 16th place finish in 2024. With strong focus on the details, a quick adaptation period from their frosh and some strong new vaults, PSU should challenge for a spot in the Regional Final, and perhaps more, in 2025.

Quick Assessment: Illinois finds themselves in 22nd position in the Preseason poll, exactly the same place as their finish in 2024. They have some large gaps to fill, with 14 routines missing from 7 departed athletes. Foremost in those losses (11 of 14) are the quartet of iconic Illni: Allie Morgan, Abby Mueller, Mia Takekawa, and Mia Townes. Leading the way for the six returners are Alea Byrne, Amelia Knight and Arielle Ward. The Illini are also looking forward to the return of Ruthuja Nataraj, a potential AAer and a healthy Makayla Green. They would also like to get stepup performances from returners like Lyden Saltness and the rest of a talent-laden sophomore class.
Illinois welcomes no less than 8 newcomers, headlined by senior elite Chloe Cho (4*). Illinois also welcomes L10s signees Kennedy Brown (4*), Mya Gordon (3.5*) and Eden King. Cho has been designated as B1G gymnast to watch for 2025, after her breathrough elite season. She placed 22nd AA at the 2024 XFinity US Championships, after a solid elite season. In 2023, she placed 11th AA at the Core Hydration Classic. Gordon heads up the L10 with her big pike front 1/2 on VT. She tied for 4th on the event at the 2024 WDP L10 Nationals. At the meet, she also tied for 10th on UB and 17th AA. The prior year, she was 17th AA at the WDPs. Brown is coming off a strong club season, where she tied for 15th AA at the WDP L10 Nationals. She was also 4th on VT and 11th(t) at the 2023 WDP L10 Nationals. Her Yurchenko 1 1/2 and strong tumbling are her biggest strengths. King missed the 2024 season with an Achilles' injury (Dec '23) but won VT (Yurchenko 1 1/2) at the 2023 WDP L10 Nationals (Sr B). She also tied for 18th AA. NIU transfer Emmalise Nock brings in important experience and career highs of 9.9 on VT and 9.95 on FX.
Illinois enters 2025 with some open questions and 14 spots to fill in their lineups. They will definitely be looking to some of their frosh to contribute immediately, especially Cho and their incoming power vaulters with 10.0 start values. The return of Nataraj and stepup performances from other returnees will be key.

Routines Gone: 3 VT, 3 UB, 1 BB, 2 FX
Finish Last Season: 24th
Returning Starters (7): Ayzhia Hall (Sr), Whitney Jencks (So), Sophia McClelland (Sr), Halle Rourke (Sr), Isabel Sikon (So), Emma Simpton (Sr), Emma Spence (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (9): Katelyn Barth (Jr), Olivia Burns (So), Emalee Frost (Jr), Allie Gard (Jr), Genesis Gibson (Sr), Lauren Homecillo (Jr), Katie Kuenemann (Sr), Jenna Sartoretto (So), Lucy Stanhope (Sr/I)

Newcomers (5): Reese Baechle (RS So/TR/Lindenwood), Reese Baker (Fr), Lauren Hollifield (Fr), Nya Kraus (Jr/TR/Lindenwood), Molly Peterson (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Nebraska finished the 2024 season in 24th, the same as their preseason rank. They lose nine routines from a squad that finished third in the second round at the Arkansas regional. Among those losses is AAer Csenge Bacskay, a transfer to UGA, and standouts Clara Colombo, Martina Comin and Kinsey Davis. THe Huskers do return a strong core, led by AAer Emma Spence and supported by soph Whitney Jencks and Isabel Sikon, and seniors Azhia Hall, Sophia McClelland and Emma Simpton. NU also looks to get back Lucy Stanhope, who was sidelined by an injury last season. With 16 returning athletes, Nebraska has the depth that any number of athletes could step up to fill the nine lineup spots. Two likely candidates are McClelland and Jencks, as both have been named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch.
The Huskers welcome six newcomers, including two transfers from Lindenwood. Reese Baechle is coming off a strong year at Lindenwood, hitting 9.9s on VT and FX. Nya Kraus was a top gymnast for Lindenwood, winning USAG All-American honors last season on the UB and BB. She has career highs of 9.9 on the UB, BB and FX. The frosh are headlined by Molly Peterson (3.5*). Peterson posted a career high 38.675 in 2024 and a 38.65 to placed 2nd at the State meet (but did not compete after that). She tied for 8th AA, 4th on UB and 9th on BB at the 2023 WDP L10 Nationals. She was also 7th AA in 2022.
Nebraska will look to return to Regionals and battle once again for spot in the final. They do have a number of routines they need to replace, and they'll need to rely heavily on the 16 returning athletes to pick up the slack from the 6 deparated athletes.
24. Maryland Terrapins |

Routines Gone: 2 VT, 1 UB, 1 BB, 1 FX
Head Coach: Brett Nelligan
Assistants: Erinn Dooley, Morgan Epps, JJ Ferreira
Finish Last Season: 26th
Returning Starters (10): Tasha Brozowski (Sr), Victoria Gatzendorfer (Sr), Layla Hammer (So), Josephine Kogler (Sr), Madeline Komoroski (Jr), Sierra Kondo (Sr), Rhea LeBlanc (Sr), Natalie Martin (So), Taylor Rech (Jr), Alexa Rothenbuescher (Gr)
Other/Injured Returners (7): Lindsay Bacheler (Sr), Lauren Brendlinger (So), Logan Buckmon (So), Bella Ferraccio (So), Hailey Merchant (Sr), Gianna Ruffing (So), Shani Sirota (Jr)
Graduated (4): Tayler Osterhout, Emma Silberman, Olivia Weir, Samantha Gilbert
Other Losses (1): Athlyn Drage (Sr/?)
Newcomers (5): Nicollette Crochet (Fr), Rayna Engelmayer (Fr), Addie Hewitt (Fr), Maggie Murphy (So), Sarah Saville (Fr)
Quick Assessment: Maryland loses just five routines from a squad that finished 26th last season. The Terps finished third in their second-round matchup at the Florida Regional in 2024, lagging 1.125 points behind 2nd place MSU. A large and experienced roster returns, with 10 returning starters and 17 total veterans. The primary loss from last season was sometime all-arounder Emma Silberman. However, back to lead the way in 2025 are grad student Alexa Rothenbuescher, seniors Josephine Kogler and Rhea Leblanc, junior Taylor Rech, and sophomore standout Natalie Martin. Martin and Rothenbuescher have been named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch. The remaining Terp lineup holes could be filled by any number of the returning starters or veterans.
Maryland welcomes five newcomers, led by Rayna Engelmayer, Addie Hewitt, Maggie Murphy (3*), and Sarah Saville (3.5*). Saville leads the way. The former Mizzou commit tied for 6th on uneven bars, 8th on vault, and 8th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 6th on uneven bars and placed 26th all-around at the 2023 WDP Nationals. Engelmayer trains Level 10 in the US but has competed for the Austrian National Team. Engelmayer tied for 2nd on balance beam and 7th on floor exercise at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also finished 36th all-around at the meet. In 2023, she tied for 4th on balance beam. Hewitt placed 30th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals, after tying for 13th all-around in 2023. She is a powerful vaulter but has a career-high 38.475 all-around score. Murphy is another powerful athlete who tied for 5th on floor exercise and placed 32nd all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also tied for 15th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals.
Maryland will look to improve on last year's 26th place finish and move into contention for the Regional Final. To do that, they'll need continued progress from their returners while their froshadapt to college competition. Balance beam will be a key focus area, and improvements there will only help the team climb further.
25. NC State Wolf Pack |
Official Web Site: Link Schedule Roster
Starting Routines Returning: 15/24
Routines Gone: 2 VT, 2 UB, 3 BB, 2 FX
Head Coach: Kim Landrus
Assistant: Emily Gaskins, Philip Ogletree, Bob Starkell
Finish Last Season: 28th
Returning Starters (10): Meg Adler (Jr), Kailee Adomaites (Jr), Peyton Childs (Sr), Maddie Hall (So), Katie Harper (So), Ashley Knight (So), Chloe Negrete (Gr), Madeline Reid (Jr), Krista Zultevicz (Sr)
Other/Injured Returners (5): Raina Gandhi (So), Elle Hadrick (So), Macy Jennings (Sr/I), Lucy Lehman (Sr), Brooke Smead (Sr), Lauren Wright (So)
Graduated (3): Madison Benson, Alexis Ortega, Emily Shepard
Other Losses (3): Katya Edwards (Jr/?), Wells Fischer (So/?), Sofia Obregon (Jr/?)
Newcomers (6): Ava Myers (Fr), Bella O'Bryant (Fr), Kyla Petrocci (Fr), Jenna Rusk (Fr), Syniya Thomas (Fr), Caroline Volk (Fr)
Quick Assessment: NC State finished 28th in the nation last year, after a 16th place finish in the regular season standings. This partially explains the leap to #26 in the Preseason Coaches' poll, as a weaker Regional score can pull down a team's final ranking. The Wolfpack finished a somewhat distant 4th in the Michigan Regional, a full 0.8 behind Illinois, which had to survive a play-in round. NCSU loses 9 routines from last year's squad, including key sets from stars Alexis Ortega and Emily Shepard. Ten returning starters come back, led by grad student Chloe Negrete, senior Krista Zultevicz, junior Meg Adler, and sophomores Katie Harper and Ashley Knight. However, with 15 returning athletes, any number of athletes could step up, such as Maddie Hall or Kailee Adomaites.
NC State welcomes six frosh newcomers, led by Caroline Volk (3.5*), Ava Myers (3*), Jenna Rusk, Kyla Petrocci, and Syniya Thomas. Volk tied for 6th on uneven bars and placed 14th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals (Senior E). She also qualified as an individual event specialist on vault in 2023. In 2023, she placed 5th on uneven bars and 10th all-around at the WDP Level 10 Nationals. Myers was named to the ACC Newcomer watchlist. She tied for 3rd on uneven bars and placed 25th all-around at the 2024 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also finished 27th all-around in 2023. Rusk qualified for the WDP Level 10 Nationals in 2024 after winning the uneven bars title and placing 4th all-around at the Region 3 Level 10 Regional meet. She also won the Regional title on uneven bars in 2023, with a 9.9. Thomas is an in-state Level 10 who was the Region 8 Level 10 Regional vault champion in Senior C in 2024. She qualified for the Level 10 Nationals in 2022 as an individual event specialist, placing 2nd. Another in-state Level 10, Petrocci, placed 25th all-around at the 2023 WDP Level 10 Nationals. She also was the Region 8 Level 10 Regional all-around champion. However, she missed the 2024 club season.
NC State will look to continue their progression up the rankings. With 15 returning athletes, they have a strong core that may be supplemented by their incoming talent, particularly on vault and uneven bars. Replacing the high scores from the likes of Shepard and Ortega won't be easy, but having Negrete lead the charge for another year will definitely help.
