Iowa State's Meaghan Sievers won the VT and BB to lead the Cyclones.  Iowa State's Haylee Young added a win on UB while teammate Briana Ledesma scored a career high 9.925 to win FX.  Kelsey Paz posted a 38.975 to win the AA and secure a sweep.

Hamline 182.95 at UW La Crosse 187.625

UW LaCrosse won their season opener with a win over the visitors from Hamline.  UW-L's Abby Ostrovsky led the way with wins on VT and UB.  Teammate Amy Enright won the FX while frosh teammate Ally Blixt won the BB.  Samantha Wiekamp completed the sweep with a 36.7 AA win.

Eboni Jackson won the FX and AA (37.65) to lead the Warriors.  For Gustavus, Alex Kopp won the VT and BB while Samantha Ardy won the UB.

UW Whitewater 187.95 at UW Stout 184.3

UW Stout posted its highest season-opening score in school history but it wasn't enough as Whitewater posted an 187.95 for the win.  Lisa O'Donnell and Courtney Pickett tied for the BB title to lead UW Whitewater.  Stout's Kaylee Jondal won the AA (37.7) and took the FX.  Teammates Mikala Bugge and MacKenzie Nicholson won the VT and UB, respectively.

LSU 197.575 at Bama 197.1

LSU blasted a 197.575 to hold off host Bama 197.575 to 197.1.  Ashleigh Gnat of LSU posted teh first 10 of the season, winning the VT.  She also tied for the FX title with teammate Myia Hambrick and Bama's Kiana Winston.  Teammate Sarah Finnegan won the BB.  Winston won the UB and tied for the AA title at 39.6 with LSU's Hambrick.

Kentucky 196.95 at Florida 197.6

Kentucky put up a school record 196.95 but it was enough, as the Florida Gators defended their home turf with a 197.6.  They were led by Kenndy Baker, who tied for the FX and AA titles (39.575).  Gator Rachel Slocum posted a 9.95 to win VT, while teammate Alex McMurtry won the UB with the same score.  Teammate Alicia Boren added a win on BB.  For Kentucky, frosh Mollie Korth scored a huge win in tying Baker for the AA title.  She also nabbed a share of the FX title, along with teammate Sidney Dukes.

Missouri 195.85 at Arkansas 193.95

Mizzou posted a solid 195.85 to defeat host Arkansas, 195.85 to 193.95.  The GymBacks suffered a big blow before the meet, as superstar Amanda Wellick went down with an injury.  Morgan Porter returned to competition for Missouri and won the UB and FX en route to a 39.175 AA win.  Teammate Britney Ward won the VT.  For Arkansas, frosh Jessica Yamzon won BB.

UGA 196.8 at Auburn 196.075

UGA defeated host Auburn 196.8 to 196.075.  In the process, the overcame the struggles of last weekend and emerged as a new team.  They were led by Sydney Snead, who won the UB and who tied for the VT title with teammate Lauren Johnson.  She also posted a 39.45 in the AA.  Teammate Rachel Schick won the BB as the Gym Dogs posted the top five marks on the event.  For AU, MJ Rott won the FX.

WVU 193.875 at Pittsburgh 194.025

Host Pitt downed the Mountaineers, 194.025 to 193.875, holding off WVU's late comeback.  Rachel Dugan won the UB while teammates Brittany West and Kelly Burak tied for the BB title to lead the Panthers to a win.  For WVU, Kirah Koshinski won the FX and tied for the VT title with teammate Zaakira Muhammad.

West Chester 191.05 at Ursinus 186.875

West Chester's Majesta Valentine dominated the meet, winning every event en route to posting a 39.10 AA win.

Alaska 188.95 at W&M 191.325

Host William & Mary defeated Alaska-Anchorage 191.325 to 188.95 in a rare Wednesday night meet.  Tribe senior Briana Gironda led the way, winning the AA (38.7) and the FX.  She also tied for 1st on UB and BB.  Teammate4 Caroline Caponi tied for the UB title while Alaska's Tere Alonso tied for the BB title.  W&M's Katie Webber and Olivia O'Connor tied for the VT title.

2018-2019: Wong to Washington

Lauren Wong, a L10 at USA Gymnastics World (Utah), has committed to Washington for 2018-2019.  She tied for 15th AA and placed 3rd on BB at the 2016 Region I L10 Regionals.  She also qualified to Regionals in 2015.

Brockport State defeated Cortland State on Tuesday state.  Brockport used 24 different athletes on 24 different events, a true team effort in their opening meet.  Kendra Bushart won the BB while teammate Brittany Vasile won the FX for Brockport.  Rachel Filipski won VT and Meghan Cobb won UB for the hosts.

2018-19 Katelyn Goldstrom to BGSU

Katelyn Goldstrom, L10 at Gymsport Athletic Center, has committed to Bowling Green.  She competed only partial meets through last season, but here her VIDEO channel.

Host Cal won the NorCal Classic on Monday night with a 195.325, defeating rivals from Sac State (194.475), UC Davis (193.875), Stanford (193.25) and San Jose State (192.6).  Stanford's Elizabeth Price won VT and UB with matching 9.95s.  She sat out the FX.  Cal's Toni-Ann Williams won the FX with her big double layout, and tossed a huge Hindorf on UB.  She did not compete BB.  Cal teammates Desiree Palomares and Sofie Seilnacht tied for the BB title.  Sac State stayed consistent throughout, and Julia Conner claimed the AA title with a 38.975.  Cal counted a fall on UB and had a few issues on FX as well.  Stanford started slowly on BB and then suffered a series of falls on FX, but rebounded strongly in the second half.

The first big weekend of the season is in the books, and what did we learn?  OU and LSU are off to a quick start in the Championship Race, and the others have a lot of work left to do to close the gap they've established.  There was a lot of great gymnastics and a lot of opportunity out there.  Here's our rewind of the weekend performances of the Preseason Top 25.
