NLI: UIC (W) Signs Two

UIC signed two gymnasts to letters of intent:  Chelsea Bailey and Alexandria "Lexi" Brown.

Bailey is a L10 who trains at IGI.  She placed 10th AA at the 2010 Region V L10 Regionals and qualified to the JO NIT meet.  In 2009, she placed 13th AA at the Regional meet.  Link:  YouTube.com Video

Brown is a teammate of Bailey at IGI.  The L10 placed 20th AA at the 2010 Region V L10 Regionals.  As a L9 in 2009, she placed 1st on FX, 3rd on UB and 5th AA at the 2009 L9 Eastern Nationals.  Link:  YouTube.com Channel

Commonwealth Games: UIC Frosh Wins Bronze on BB

UIC Frosh Cynthia LeMieux-Guillemette, representing Canada, captured her third Bronze of the Games, placing 3rd on BB.  She won a Bronze on UB and in the team competition, while placing 8th AA.  UIC frosh teammate placed 5th on BB while sharing a team bronze.  Earlier in the week, Yale frosh twins Nicole and Tabitha Tay competed for Singapore, placing 18th and 20th in the AA final, respectively.

Commonwealth Games Update

The Commonwealth Games are in full force, with Lauren Mitchell of Australia leading an Aussie sweep of the AA medal.  Australia also won the team title.  UIC frosh Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette placed 8th AA.   In the Men's competition, Ohio State commit Misha Koudinov of New Zealand placed 6th AA.  Link:   Results

UIC Names Nelson as Men's Head Coach

Charley Nelson, the assistant men's coach at UIC, has been named Head Coach.  He replaces CJ Johnson, who retires at the end of the month after 36 years.

UIC Men's Coach Johnson Retires

UIC Men's Head Coach CJ Johnson has retired, according to a school release.  His coaching career spanned 36 years, and yielded back-to-back Division II National Titles in 1978 and 1979.
