Kirsten Browder Named Head Coach at Wilson College

Kirsten Browder has been promoted to Head Coach, replacing Amy Martelli.  Browder has been the team's Assistant Coach for seven seasons.  As a college athlete, she competed for Pitt.

2012-13 Bridgy Caquatto to UF

Bridgette Caquatto tells Gymnastike that she has verbally committed to UF.  She will graduate from high school in 2012 and join her sister Mackenzie at Florida in the fall.  As an elite gymnast, Bridgey has competed at Nationals the past three seasons and she represented the US at the 2009 Jr. Pam Am games (4th AA; 2nd V).  She has been working through an injury this season, but recently competed bars at the US Nationals.

VISA Championships: Women's Finals

Rebecca Bross won the AA title Saturday night at the VISA (US) Championships.  UCLA signee Mattie Larson was 2nd, with Alexandra Raisman in 3rd.  UF signee Kytra Hunter was 4th, with future teammate Mackenzie Caquatto in a tie for fifth with UGA commit Chelsea Davis.  UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa dropped to 8th after problems on VT and BB.

VISA Championships: Men's Finals

Former OU star Jonathan Horton defended his AA title Friday night, successfully winning the VISA Championships.  In 2nd was Danell Leyva, who also captured the PB title while holding off Ohio State's Brandon Wynn, who also won Rings.  OU grad Chris Brooks was 4th and 1st on HB while Cal's Glen Ishino was fifth.   NCAAers excelled in the event finals, with Josh Dixson of Stanford taking the FX title and Daniel Ribiero of Illinois taking the PH title.  OU's Steven Legendre won the VT title, breaking 17 with a 17.05 for the 2nd time in a row.

Preslee Harrald Commits to CMU

As recently reported, ASU withdrew its scholarship offer to Preslee Harrald in order to reserve a scholarship for one of their redshirt athletes.  Preslee has now committed to CMU for the 2011-12 season, where she'll join her long time friend and former teammate, Rachel York.  Preslee's family tells CGFs.com that they appreciate the amazing outpouring of support from fans and coaches who were aware of Preslee's situation and that she is excited for this opportunity.

Preslee won her state meet last season and finished 1st AA at the NIT.

UIC Names Nelson as Men's Head Coach

Charley Nelson, the assistant men's coach at UIC, has been named Head Coach.  He replaces CJ Johnson, who retires at the end of the month after 36 years.

Bross Takes Lead at Day 1 of VISA Championships

WOGA's Rebecca Bross took the lead after Day 1 of the VISA (US) Championships Senior Women's division.  UCLA signee Mattie Larsen was 2nd, while Alexandra Raisman was 3rd.  UGA commit Chelsea Davis is fourth, while UF signee Kytra Hunter was tied for fifth with future teammate Mackenzie Caquatto.  UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa was 7th, while posting the 2nd highest senior score of the day (15.6) with a stick on her "Cheng" vault (roundoff 1/2 on to front layout with 1 1/2 twists off).  The highest senior score of the day (15.65) was posted by ex-Brown athlete Alicia Sacramone.

Charley Nelson Named Mens Coach at UIC

UIC has announced that Charley Nelson will step in as head coach of its men's program, replacing recently retired CJ Johnson.  Nelson competed for UIC during college, and then he was named Assistant Coach soon after he graduated.

SJSU Adds Julia Greer

Julia Greer, L10 at Mission Valley YMCA, will compete for SJSU according to a recent news article.  Greer is coming off of a strong competive season, including an AA win at the GP Last Chance Meet (1st V/BB/FX) and a win on beam at the California Classic.  She placed 3rd at states, 6th at regionals and 32nd at JOs.

VISA Championships: Men's Day 1 Results

Former OU star Jonathan Horton leads the field in the senior division at the VISA (US) Championships. Danell Leyva is in 2nd while Ohio State star Brandon Wynn is third while topping the field on Rings.  Cal's Bryan del Castillo is in fourth, while OU's Jake Dalton is fifth.  Current and former collegians posted the top scores on the individual events:  Stanford's Josh Dixon on FX; Illinois' Daniel Ribiero on PH; OU's Steve Legendre on VT with a meet-high 17.05; former OU star Chris Brooks on PB and HB.  Current and former NCAAers also dominate the senior standings.

In the Junior Men's division, Michigan bound Sam Mikulak took the AA title and won three individual events (PH, HB and share of PB title).  Jacoby Rubin was 2nd while Wyatt Aycock (NU signee) was third.

2011-12 Dabritz to Utah

Elite gymnast Georgia Dabritz has committed to Utah, according to her recent interview with Gymnastike.  Dabritz picked up a number of event wins in her meets last season and recently placed 21st AA at the Covergirl Classic.  She competes for Ace Gymnastics in Massachusetts.

2010-2011: Rutgers Adds Four

Rutgers announced the addition of four athletes to its incoming class for 2010-2011.  The four are:

Danielle D'Elia:  A transfer from CMU, where she scored a season high of 9.8 on the FX at the NCAA Regionals last season.  She graduated from high school in New Jersey in 2008 but will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Alexis Gunzelman:  A L10 from Envision Gymnastics who tied for 9th AA at the 2010 Region VII L10 Regionals, Senior D.  She was also 18th AA and 3rd on BB at the 2009 L10 Regionals.

Alexandria Ivol:  A L10 who trains at Atlantic Coast, Ivol placed 4th on UB and 17th AA at the 2010 Region VII L10 Regionals, Sr. C.  She was also 1st on UB, 3rd on VT and 2nd AA at the 2009 Level 9 Eastern Nationals.

Holly Murray:  A L9 National qualifier from the Artistic Sports Academy Plus in PA.   At the 2010 Level 9 Eastern Nationals, she won the FX title.  She also finished 4th on FX and 11th AA in 2009.

Ball State Adds Pacovsky

Ball State has announced the addition of Mackenzie Pacovsky to their 2010-11 roster.  Pacovsky competed at Level 10 for Northshore Gymnastics in Minnesota.  She finished 13th AA at her state meet and 12th AA at regionals.

2011-2012: Carlsen to Denver

Kayla Carlsen, a L10 at Douglasville Gymnastics in Georgia, has committed to Denver for 2011-2012.   At the 2010 L10 Nationals, she tied for 25th AA after winning her state L10 AA title.  In 2009, she placed 9th AA at the Region VIII L10 Regionals.

2011-12 Rachel York to CMU

Rachel York, L10 at Dynamo in Oklahoma, has committed to CMU for the 2011-12 season.  York competed three events at her state meet last season, finishing 1st on vault.  She competed two events at regionals, finishing 2nd on vault and 4th on floor.
