Nicole Daylton posted a meet-high 9.95 to lead the Cardinal to victory. Teammates Ivana Hong and Amanda Spinner tied for the beam title, while teammate Ashley Morgan tied for the bars title with UC Davis' Michelle Ho. San Jose State's Julia Greer won the FX while Sac State's Kalliah McCartney won the AA.

Michigan posted a big 196.575 to defeat BYU (194.475) and Oregon State (193.6) at the Cancun Classic. It was the highest ever opening score for the Wolverines. Junior Joanna Sampson posted a career-high 39.425 to win the AA, with sophomore Sachi Sugiyama in 2nd. Sampson won the vault and tied for the bars title with teammate Sugiyama and BYU's Raquel Willman. Sugiyama also won the FX while teammate Katie Zurales won the Beam.

Florida powered to a 196.575, let by Kytra Hunter's wins on UB and FX. Ashanee Dickerson was Florida's only AAer, and she won the title. Frosh Bridget Sloan made her debut and tied for the vault title with Dickerson. Mackenzie Caquatto won the beam.

The Troester GymInfo Coaches' Preseason Poll has defending champion Alabama as the top ranked squad to start the season. They tallied 11 first place vote as well. UCLA was 2nd, with five first place votes, although they tallied fewer first place votes than 3rd ranked Florida. Fourth ranked OU and fifth ranked Utah each earned one first place nod.
Club gymnastics is underway with the first early season meets. We've posted results for the Peppermint Twist and Gymnastics on the Grand under the Results tab. Check back throughout the season for more results.
As expected, UC Davis has signed clubmates Rachel Kreager and Ioanna "Yonni" Michovska. The L10s train at San Mateo.

Stanford announced the signing of Rachel Daum, Carinne Gale and Sophia Lee to Letters of Intent. The commits of Gale and Lee were covered in prior news items. Daum was originally reported as an Alabama commit.

Birmingham, Alabama will be the site of the 2014 Women's Nationals, according to a Bama press release.
The NCAA also announced the Regional hosts for 2014: Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Minnesota, PSU, and Washington.

SEMO has named Michael Reavis to the position of Assistant Coach. Reavis competed for Iowa's men's team and won the NCAA vault title in 2005.
Illinois tops the Men's Preseason Coaches' Poll, according to an updated poll from Troester.com. They received six first place votes to outpace 2nd place Michigan (2 first place votes). OU was #3 with two first place votes, PSU fourth with three, and Stanford 5th with two.

Penn has announced the hiring of Kim Parsons as an assistant. She comes to Penn from Temple, where she was an assistant. She was also the associate head coach at MIT and competed for James Madison.

It's been eleven years since the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. Today we honor the heroes of September 11th, 2001, including those who lost their lives. One of those people, Mari-Rae Sopper, closely touched the collegiate gymnastics community. As you may know, Mari-Rae Sopper was Head Coach of the University of California, Santa Barbara's women's gymnastics team. She was also a former standout collegiate gymnast and team captain for Iowa State. Many of you knew her in the capacity of coach, teammate, competitor, colleague and friend.
Penn State has hired Carlos Vazquez as an assistant for the men's squad. A former athlete at Temple, he has served as the head coach for boys at Capital (VA).
