Men's Winter Cup: Melton Leads After Day 1

Ohio State's Sean Melton was the leader after Day 1 of the Men's Winter Cup.  He also tied for the top mark on Rings and was 2nd on PB.  The NCAA season pauses this weekend as the men compete in this important elite meet.  OU's Yul Moldauer was 2nd (1st on PB), and former NCAA champ Sam Mikulak, on his way back from injury, was 3rd.   Mikulak was 1st on PH and tied for 1st on HB.

Former Illini CJ Maestas was fourth while Stanford's Akash Modi was fifth.  Former Stanford standout Eddie Penev was sixth, but was 1st on FX and 2nd(t) on VT.   Other NCAA athletes in the Top 10 include Ohio State's Alec Yoder in 8th and OU's Allan Bower in 10th.

Up for grabs are 8 spots on the Men's Senior National Team.  Many of the top gymnasts did not compete AA, as World Champinship team members are already on the National Team.  In the complex system for naming a team, having several strong, consistent events with high start values and good execution is better than having lower, but even, placements with lower start value across the events.
