Men's: OU's Dalton Leads Winter Cup Preliminaries

OU's Jake Dalton leads after the preliminary session at USA Gymnastics Winter Cup competition.  Cal's Glen Ishino is third.  Alexander Naddour of OU is sixth, while Sooner teammate Steven Legendre is eigth.

Men's: Air Force 335.3 at NU 342.15

Nebraska defeated Air Force, winning four individual events in the process.

Illinois (M) Names Spring Head Coach

Illinois has named Justin Spring Head Coach of it's men's program.  He had been serving as Associate Head Coach.

NLI: Nebraska (M) Signs Three

NU (M) has announced the signing of three athletes to letters of intent:   Josh Ungar, Grant Perdue and Gabriel Jolly. 

Ungar trains at the Tim Daggett Gold Medal Gymnastics.  He placed 13th AA at the 2010 VISA Championships, Junior Men's 16-18 division.  Link:  YouTube.com Channel

Perdue trains at the Houston Gymnastics Academy.  At the 2010 National Qualifier, he placed 14th AA, including a 3rd place finish on FX.  He also finished 23rd AA at the 2010 JO Nationals, Jr Men 14-15. 

Jolley trains at All American in Utah.  He tied for 52nd AA in the prelims of the 2009 JO Nationals, Jr Men 14-15.  Link:  YouTube.com Video

NLI: Michigan (M) Signs Seven

Michigan (M) has announced the signing of seven athlete's to letters of intent: 

Adrian De Los Angeles:  De Los Angeles trains at SCATS.  At the 2010 VISA Championships, he finished 2nd AA and 1st on Rings in the Junior Men's 14-15 division.  Links:  FX Video and Parallel Bar Video and YouTube.com Channel

Stacey Ervin Jr.:  Ervin trains at Mills Gymnastics.  He placed 4th AA, 3rd on FX and 1st on VT at the 2010 VISA Championships, Junior Men's 14-15 division.   Link:  Interview Video

Taylor Harrower:  Harrower trains at Integrity Gymnastics.  He finished 104th AA in the preliminaries at the 2010 JO Nationals.  Link:  Video

Nicholas Hunter:  Hunter's commit was covered in a prior news item.

Mark Panhorst:  Panhorst trainst at Bartlett Gymnastics.  He finished 105th AA in the preliminaries at the 2010 JO Nationals.  Link:  Video

Paul Rizkalla Jr.:  Rizkalla trains at Surgent's Elite.  He placed 38th AA in the preliminaries at the 2010 JO Nationals.  Link:  YouTube.com Channel

Michael Strathern:  Strathern's commit was covered in a prior news item.

According to Head Coach Kurt Golder, "The class is made up of very talented individuals.  I predict that a few are capable of making the Senior National Team in the future. I believe they'll all contribute and make a big difference for our team."

NLI: Strathern to Michigan (M)

Michael Strathern has signed with Michigan, according to the Chicago Tribune.  He trains at Bartlett Gymnastics.  He finished 11th AA at the 2010 VISA Championships, Jr. Men 16-18.

NLI: Moling Signs with Ohio State (M)

Drew Moling has signed with Ohio State, according to his local newspaper.  Moling trains at Hocking Valley Gymnastics.  He finished 10th AA and 4th(t) on PH at the 2010 VISA Champonships (Jr. Men 16-18).

Ohio State (M) Name Huntwork as Assistant

Ohio State has hired former Buckeye Dick Huntwork as an assistant to the Men's program. He currently coaches at the Hocking Valley Sports Center.  He will supplement the interim Head Coaches following the departure of Miles Avery, which was announced last week.

Avery Resigns as Men's Head Coach at Ohio State

Long-time Head Coach Miles Avery has resigned at Ohio State, effective immediately.  Assistants Doug Stibel and Blaine Wilson will serve as interim head coaches for the remainder of the season.    In addition to leading Ohio State for 13 years, and serving as an assistant between 1989 to 1997, he was the assistant coach to the US Men's Olympic Team in 96, 00, 04, and 08.

NLI: Minnesota (M) Signs Four

Four gymnasts have signed with the Minneosota Men's program for 2011-2012, during the early signing period.    They are:  Steve Jaciuk, Sean Bauer, Spencer Smith and Donnie Carper.

Jaciuk trains at the Swiss Turners.  He placed 3rd AA and 1st on Rings at the 2009 Region IV Regionals, Junior Men's 14-15.  He sat out his junior year with a back injury.    Link:  Recruiting Video

Bauer trains at the St. Louis Gym Centre.  He tied for 57th AA in the prelims at the 2010 JO Nationals   Link:  Recruiting Video

Smith trains at Metropolitan Gymnastics in Washington.   He placed 20th AA in the Junior Men's 16-18 division at the 2010 VISA Championships.
