NCAA Officially Addresses Vault Start Value Oversights

As expected, the NCAA has officially updated the NCAA Code Modifications to change the start values of several vaults that were rated at 10.0 for last season.  The original change created controversy because the Yurchenko Layout Half and the Yurchenko Layout Full were devalued from a 10.0 to a 9.95 start value last season.  However, in an apparent oversight, the NCAA left the Yurchenko 1/2 to Front Layout (aka Yurchenko "Arabian" and "Hristakaeva") at a 10.0 last season, creating an unusual situation in which two vaults with slight different turn timing were given different start values.

The newly released Code Modifications officially change the value of this vault from a 10.0 to a 9.95.  The NCAA also reduced the value of the Yurcheko 1/2 off to Front Layout with a 1/2 from a 10.0 to a 9.95.  The Tsukahara Pike with a Full Twist, previously rated a 10.0, was deleted from the start value table entirely.  Some other vaults remain a 10.0, including the Tsukahara Layout Half, Tsukahara 1/2 (to 3/4) to Front Layout (Phelps), and the Yurchenko 1 1/2 twist in tuck position.  With another off-season to work the higher rated vaults, we're expecting to see some gymnasts debut different vaults next season.
