According to the Omaha-World Herald, the NU Athletic department has said the sudden move is NOT related to a student-athlete welfare issue.  Brink also declined to comment until she has spoken with the team, who are on their fall break. 

However, later Tuesday the Nebraska administration clarified that Kendig chose to retire, after being approached with some potential NCAA compliance issues.  NU has chosen to self-report these issues to the NCAA, which will then make a determination on violations and any resultant actions.
