Final Women's National Rankings

Now that Nationals have been completed, the Final National rankings for the women have been posted at Troester.com GymInfo.  The teams are ranked first by finish by score at Nationals (Super Six and then Preliminaries) and then by the total of the RQS and the Regional mark.  Congratulations to NCAA Champion UCLA and AA Champion Susan Jackson of LSU.

During the recent Men's Region VIII Regionals, a trio of men were announced as having committed to schools:

Brendan Williams has committed to Temple, according to a site submission.  He trains at Victory Gymnastics in California.

NCAA Event Champions Crowned

Event Champions were crowned at the NCAA Finals.

Vault:  Vanessa Zamarripa, UCLA

Zamarripa floated a big layout Yurchenko Full with a flaired opening, scooting back slightly on the first landing.  Then, she popped a huge roundoff-half on, front layout 1/2 off.   She flaired this one out beautifully as well, with a small scoot back and a slight off-center in direction.

Janiga hit a Shaposhnikova to overshoot handstand, Tkachev and stuck her double layout dismount to take the win.

Jackson hit her jam packed set for the win, adding to her AA title that she won on Thursday.  Her set included a bhs-layout/whip series, front aerial, front tuck and a double tuck dismount.

Oklahoma Sweeps Coach of the Year Awards

Head Coach KJ Kindler was named the 2010 Women's Head Coach of the Year, it was announced in an OU release.  Assistants Lou Ball and Tom Haley shared Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

UCLA Wins 2010 Women's NCAA Title

UCLA won its sixth NCAA National Championship in Women's Gymnastics Friday night, defeating a tightly packed field.  The Bruins posted a 197.725, pulling away from the field on FX in the last round with a season-high 49.55.  OU was second at 197.25, edging Bama at 197.25, Stanford at 197.1 and Florida at 197.  UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa and Anna Li posted the top two AA scores of the night to lead the Bruins.

LSU's Susan Jackson Wins 2010 AA Title

LSU's Susan Jackson won the 2010 AA Title, posting a 39.625 to take the title.  Casey Jo Magee of Arkansas was 2nd while Stanford's Carly Janiga was third.

Bama won Session 2 of the 2010 Women's NCAAs Preliminaries with a 196.85.  Florida was a close 2nd with a 196.775.  Stanford grabbed the third spot with a 196.3.  Casey Jo Magee of Arkansas was the top AAer in the evening session, posting a 39.55.

UCLA won the first session of the NCAA Women's Team Preliminaries with a 196.875 (unofficial results based on quick hits).  Utah was just behind at 196.625, followed closely by OU at 196.55.  LSU's Susan Jackson won the AA in this session with a 39.625.  PSU frosh Sharaya Musser was 2nd with a 39.45, just ahead of Utah's Daria Bijak and UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa at 39.425.
