UCLA held off a consistent Arkansas to secure a win at home, 195.7 to 195.35. UCLA was led by Gold Medalist Madison Kocian, who won the AA with a 39.425. She also tied for the event titles on UB, BB and FX. She tied on UB with classmate and 2012 Gold Medalist Kyla Ross and Peng-Peng Lee. On BB, she tied with leadoff Mikaela Gerber. On FX, teammate Madison Preston grabbed a share of the title. Preston also tied for the VT title with Arkansas' Amanda Wellick.
UCLA started the meet off solidly on VT and UB, but ran into troubles on BB. They had near-falls from Lee (on her two foot layout) and Katelyn Ohashi (on her bhs, bhs, layout with a full twist). Ross and Sonya Meraz also missed their dance series requirements (a 0.2 deduction), failing to connect a C level dance skill to another dance skill, both pausing after their major dance elements. On the FX, the Bruin lineup had issues with their tumbling, including low landings on dismounts and two falls.
Arkansas stayed consistent and avoiding counting medium and large mistakes, a solid result for a first meet on the road.
