NCAA Women's Regional Field Announced

Written by

The NCAA announced the seedings and placements for the NCAA Regionals in two weeks.

Ann Arbor

Round 1:

Illinois vs. CMU in play-in round.

Round 2:

Session 1: Michigan, Alabama, PSU, Ohio State

Session 2: UCLA, Nebraska, WVU, plus play-in winner.

Host Michigan and defending champion UCLA will be on the upset alert with a rising Bama squad and a Nebraska squad with a reputation for peaking in the post season.  This could be an exciting set of meets.

Baton Rouge

Round 1:

GWU vs. Lindenwood in play-in round

Round 2:

Session 1: Utah, Minnesota, BYU, Arkansas

Session 2: LSU, Auburn, ASU, plus play-in winner

Utah and host LSU are the top seeds, but Minnesota and Auburn will seek to eliminate the mistakes they experienced in the Conference meets.  BYU, Arkansas and ASU make this perhaps the deepest field.

Athens

Round 1:

NC State vs. New Hampshire in the play-in round

Round 2:

Session 1: UGA, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa State

Session 2: OU, California, Maryland plus play-in winner

UGA has been strongest at home, and OU is a formidable foe.  Kentucky looks to rebound from a disappointing SEC meet in perhaps the thinnest field.

Corvallis Regional

Round 1:

Iowa vs. Arizona

Round 2:

Session 1:  Denver, Boise State, Washington, SUU

Session 2:  Florida, Oregon State, Stanford plus the play-in winner

Denver and Florida are the top two seeds, with host Oregon St looking to ride a home gym advantage to close a large gap to the leaders.  Boise St and Washington also lurk, although both have been impacted by the loss of key stars.
