Four gymnasts were clustered behind the two leaders: New senior Rose-Kaying Woo was third, with key top 4 placements on UB and BB, an area that the Canucks will seek to bolster. Another new senior, Shallon Olsen, was 4th AA and was the top vaulter and was 2nd best on FX. UGA commit (2018) Megan Roberts was close behind in 5th, hitting an upgraded UB set, while Washington incoming frosh Madison Copiak was 6th, and 2nd on UB (fall on BB). Along with Brittany Rogers, these five form the leading contenders for the remaining three spots on the Canadian Olympic Team, with several others in the chase pack. Rogers competed only three events, and dragged her feet on her Pak salto on UB but nailed her new arabian front on BB.
Just behind this quartet and making a strong challenge was incoming Oregon State frosh Sabrina Gill, who has come back impressively from injury. Then, in 8th was Florida incoming frosh Meaghan Chant, and in 9th, Maryland incoming frosh Kirsten Peterman. Ohio State incoming frosh Victoria-Kayen Woo was 10th after a rough on BB, while BYU incoming frosh Helody Cyrene was 11th. Washington commit (2018) Meaghan Ruttan was 12th and Iowa incoming frosh Clair Kaji was 14th. Former UGA star Brittany Rogers competed only on three events.
12 gymnasts will be invited to final Trials at the end of June. Much will depend on the Trials, as the last remaining spots appear up for grabs among several gymnasts. Various combinations of the leading contenders on each event produce very similar team scores, meaning consistency, past performances (Elite Canada, Gymnix and international assignments) and especially, the final Trials, will be critical.
In the men's competition, just one spot to the Olympics is up for grabs. Jackson Payne won the AA, while Minnesota's Justin Karstadt was 2nd. Cal's Aaron Mah was 8th.
In the junior women's final, Ana Padarariu dominated with a 55.7 AA win.
