Preslee Harrald, L10 at Krafft Academy in Oklahoma, has committed to ASU for the 2011-12 season. Preslee tied for 1st in the Junior D Division of the 2009 NIT, and was the 2009 Junior D Level 10 Oklahoma State All Around Champion.
Centenary has announced that Christine Langston has accepted an offer for the 2010-11 season. She competes for Champion in Kentucky as a Level 10. Last season she won the L9 floor competition at her state meet and qualified to regionals.
Illinois takes over the top spot in this week's Troester GymInfo national men's rankings. OU's Jake Dalton takes over the top AA slot from Illini Paul Ruggeri. He also leads on the VT. Teammate Steven Legendre FX, while PSU's Alex Naddour leads Pommels. Ohio State's Brandon Wynn is the top Ring man and Cal's Kyle Bunthuwong leads on PB. Finally, Michigan's Thomas Kelly is the leader on HB.
➽ The results speak for themselves. Brianna GUY is one of the hottest college bound L10s out there so far this season. She squeezes as many competitions as she reasonably can into her schedule and she wins, wins, wins. Always a strong competitor (1st AA ‘08 JO, Jr. B; 4th AA ‘09 JO, Jr. C), she’s on a tear this season. After finishing 2nd at the COTC (1st V/UB/BB) in December, she went on to win the World Class meet, the Brestyan’s meet and the Metroplex Challange. The high school junior has a lot of competitions ahead of her before she sets foot on the Auburn campus, but the Auburn coaches must doing a few flips of their own over this 2011-12 commit. Take a look at her Metroplex Challenge floor routine.
Guy isn’t the only one sizzling this season. Her Docksiders teammate, Krystal WELSH (PSU 2011-12 commit), has competed in all the same meets with about the same results. Sometimes they’ve compete in different sessions, each earning the win. Sometimes they’ve competed head to head, exchanging 1st and 2nd place finishes. Welsh recently placed first in her session of the Metroplex Challenge. Earlier this season she won the COTC (1st FX)and the World Class (1st UB/FX). She placed 2nd at the Brestyan’s meet.
The only scoring drop off, if you can call it that, for these two so far this season came last weekend in the Classic Rock meet. Guy finished 3rd (1st V/UB) and Welsh finished 4th.
➽ Collegegymfans is about college gymnastics, and the L10/elite meet results give a glimpse at the talent that is in the pipeline. At this point in the season, it’s fun to cull through the accumulating results to find groups of athletes that, when considered together, look to form strong foundations for their future college teams. Here's a quick glance at a few of the most active recruiting classes. Watch for highlights on other recruiting classes as the season progresses.

Alabama edges out Oklahoma to take back the #1 ranking this week. Oregon State is in third. LSU's Susan Jackson retains her lead in the AA, but was overtaken by Brandi Personett of PSU on the VT. On UB, Oregon State's Leslie Mak is now tied with UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa. Bama's Ashley Preiss is the leader on BB, while UGA's Courtney McCool takes over the top spot on FX.
UCLA's Vanessa Zamarripa BB, FX and AA (39.5) while teammate Anna Li posted a near-perfect 9.975 on UB. But those efforts, along with Brittani McCullough's winning Yurchenko 1 1/2 on VT, were not enough to overcome the Cardinal's balanced attack. Stanford used a big FX rotation and solid BB to take over UCLA's early lead.

Today’s college athletic climate is much different than it was 20 years ago and college coaches are under tremendous pressure to achieve two important goals: win and raise money. The one directly affects the other and alumni will enthusiastically support a winning team…and yes, the opposite is true. The cost of effectively managing a successful college athletics department has increased over the years, while support from university subvention has, in most cases, increased slightly, if not at all.
DU has announced the departure of Nilson Savage. Volunteer coach Huneth Lor (formerly a Michigan gymnast) will take over for the balance of the season.
